The Regional Police and Crisis Team (RPACT) is a new partnership between Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). A team including a RPN and a RCMP member will respond to situations involving individuals experiencing a psychiatric mental health, addictions, or psycho-social crisis when there is a danger to themselves and / or public. The RPN provides risk and mental health assessments including mental status exams, provides recommendations for next steps, arranges urgent psychiatry assessments, medication administration and makes referrals to other AHS and community service providers as needed. This position provides consultation and support to other professionals or responding officers regarding the Mental Health Act of Alberta. Goals of this collaboration are to divert individuals experiencing a crisis due to mental illness and/or addiction issues from the justice system and hospital emergency departments, to assess and stabilize in the community, and to connect individuals with resources and supports. This position has a 4 day x 9.75 hour rotation weekly, typically Monday to Thursday. Relocation and temporary housing may be available.

Description:

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024.
