What You'll Do
Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, theJunior Commissioning Technologist**will be part of the Commissioning team, supporting the commissioning and testing of primary and secondary power equipment in the field. This includes working on medium- to high-voltage substation equipment such as breakers, switchgear, relays, and transformers.
In this role, you will work closely with experienced technologists while progressively building the skills and independence required to take on more complex commissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities
This is an entry level position and the responsibilities listed below are things that will be taught on the job, the commissioning technologist student will be paired up with a senior to mentor them while they begin their career.

Work safely alongside all members of the construction and commissioning teams, adhering to all safety standards and procedures

Perform acceptance and maintenance testing of electrical equipment

Support the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of protection and control systems in medium- to high-voltage transmission substations

Interpret technical drawings and schematics, analyze test results, and assist in identifying and resolving issues
-
Work with high-voltage equipment including circuit breakers, transformers, switches, and control circuits for protection, indication, and monitoring systems

Calibrate electronic equipment and instruments as required

Operate and maintain various types of manufacturer testing equipment, including:

TTR
-
Omicron secondary test sets
-
Winding resistance
-
Omicron CPC 100
-
CT saturator
-
Collaborate with senior team members to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in the field

Contribute to documentation, reporting, and continuous improvement of commissioning practices

As experience is gained, take on increasing responsibility, including supporting the mentorship of newer team members
Additional Information
This position is designated as safety-sensitive making employment contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal and general background checks.
Schedule & Compensation
- Schedule rotations range from 4 days on / 3 days off or 8 days on / 6 days off, or 6 days on/ 1 day off
- Standard workdays are 10 hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.)
- Overtime paid at time and a half after 10 hours per day and 40 hours per week
- Out-of-town work includes either all-inclusive camp accommodations or LOA and individual accommodations (project dependent)
Requirements
What We’re looking for
- Obtaining a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary
- institution or Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience in substation would be a major asset, ie. 144kV and 240kV
- Understanding of relay testing with various equipment; Omicron, GE, Manta, Meggar
- Understanding and basic knowledge of apparatus found in a HV substation would be considered
- an asset
- Understanding and basic knowledge of testing software would be considered an asset (Omicron
- Test Universe, Doble M4000, AcSELerator, Seimens Digsi)
- Competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets.
- Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
- Demonstrate a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health and safety
- issues in the workplace.
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
