Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) acts as a liaison between students and faculty in the implementation of disability-related accommodations and services for SFU Students. CAL is responsible for upholding SFU's General Policy 26 ("Accessibility for Students with Disabilities") and also advocates on issues related to diversity, educational equity, and academic achievement. The CAL Exams team has key student-facing and instructor-facing responsibilities to ensure that SFU upholds its legal obligation to provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities. The team administers over 10,000 unique accommodated exams per year and works collaboratively with Disability Access Advisors and Exam Assistants to create an inclusive environment during the accommodated exam-writing experience. Our team values trust, open communication, creative problem-solving, and shares a commitment to improving the student experience.

About the Role

Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities for the Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL's) accommodated exams and note-taking services; and effects the institution's legal obligation to provide services, programs and facilities free from discrimination for all students and members of the community not covered by other offices or policy. The Exam Coordinator coordinates a large volume of unique accommodated exams and contributes to the development and operationalizing of exam coordination protocols and ensures consistent service and compliance. The role processes exam requests, schedules exams, secures and prepares exams, including converting materials into the appropriate accessible format, resolving any related issues, including exercising first-pass exception management, maintaining clear communication with students, staff and faculty and collecting and maintaining accurate records of exam details.

We are looking for resourceful, energetic and highly-organized individuals who are natural leaders and are passionate about equity for students with disabilities. Our ideal candidate will have solid competencies in organization, priority-setting, and problem-solving in a consistently high-output environment. They will be able to communicate with vulnerable, diverse populations using compassion, confidence and sensitivity, and will proactively engage with instructors regarding exam details. If you are searching for fast-paced and multi-faceted work alongside dedicated teammates, where no two days are the same, this is the place for you!
