What will you be doing?
World Wide Technology (WWT) is seeking a senior Energy Industry Advisor based in Calgary to help expand WWT's presence across Western Canada's oil and gas and industrial markets. This role is intended for a highly experienced, consultative business development professional who understands the full energy value chain and can engage credibly across business, operations, IT, OT, engineering, cybersecurity, and executive leadership.
The ideal candidate brings a balanced perspective from some combination of work experience in:
- Oil and gas or industrial operator roles
- Technology firm or systems integration roles
- Consulting, advisory, or transformation roles
This is not a traditional product sales role. The successful candidate will be expected to listen deeply, understand operational and business challenges, and help customers connect technology investments to measurable outcomes across safety, reliability, production, resilience, security, margin, and capital efficiency.
Position Summary:
The Energy Industry Advisor will develop executive and operational relationships, shape strategic opportunities, and help position WWT as a trusted execution partner for IT/OT modernization, industrial infrastructure, cybersecurity, Edge, AI, and digital transformation across the Canadian energy market. Successful candidates in this role should be able to understand how energy companies operate from field-level operational realities to the boardroom. They should be equally comfortable discussing production operations, pipeline reliability, refinery performance, OT security risk, control system modernization, data gravity, Edge computing, AI-ready infrastructure, and the commercial realities that shape technology decisions. This role will work closely with WWT account teams, architects, engineers, consulting teams, OEM partners, and executive leadership to identify customer priorities, build business cases, and bring WWT's full portfolio to bear across industrial infrastructure, cybersecurity, Edge computing, AI-ready platforms, cloud, networking, data, and digital transformation.
Responsibilities:
- Represent WWT as a credible Energy industry advisor, not simply a technology seller.
- Develop relationships with oil and gas operators, midstream companies, downstream/refining organizations, energy infrastructure firms, and industrial customers.
- Engage senior stakeholders across CIO, CTO, CISO, VP Operations, VP Engineering, Digital, Automation, Reliability, Maintenance, OT, and field leadership.
- Lead consultative discovery conversations that uncover business challenges, operational constraints, technology gaps, and investment priorities.
Business Outcome Selling
The candidate must be highly experienced in business outcome selling and able to connect technology initiatives to operational and financial value. Key outcome areas include:
- Operational Excellence & Efficiency: Prioritize safety, resilience, and energy efficiency by optimizing asset reliability, yield, and throughput to minimize downtime.
- Field Intelligence & Modernization: Drive production visibility and field decision-making by deploying Edge computing and AI atop modernized industrial networks, data platforms, and control-adjacent environments.
- Secure Connectivity & Risk Mitigation: Ensure operational continuity and remote site connectivity through robust OT cybersecurity and comprehensive risk reduction.
This person should help customers understand the “why” behind technology investments and support opportunity framing, business case development, executive presentations, and account strategy.
Energy Value Chain Expertise
The role requires strong working knowledge across upstream, midstream, and downstream energy operations.
Upstream
- Exploration, drilling, completions, and production operations
- Well pads, field networks, SCADA, remote operations, and production optimization
- Emissions monitoring, asset reliability, and Edge connectivity in remote environments
Midstream
- Pipelines, compression, terminals, storage, and measurement
- Control rooms, leak detection, integrity management, communications, and operational continuity
- Secure connectivity and modernization across distributed assets
Downstream
- Refining, petrochemicals, and process manufacturing
- Process safety, reliability, turnarounds, advanced process control, and yield optimization
- Energy management, industrial data, and control system modernization
The candidate should understand brownfield complexity, legacy systems, constrained connectivity, regulatory requirements, capital discipline, and the need to modernize with minimal disruption to operations.
Technology and IT/OT Focus Areas
The candidate does not need to be a deep technical engineer but must be fluent enough to lead credible conversations around IT/OT convergence and industrial modernization. Relevant areas include:
- Industrial networking, wireless, private cellular, SD-WAN, and remote connectivity
- Edge computing, Edge AI, and distributed infrastructure
- AI-ready infrastructure, data center modernization, GPU platforms, and hybrid cloud
- Industrial data architecture, historians, UNS concepts, digital twins, and contextualized data
- Cloud, automation, observability, infrastructure modernization, and application platforms
- Technology lifecycle, Day 2 operations, governance, and scalable deployment models
- Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity, segmentation, secure remote access, asset visibility, and resilience
The role will partner with WWT technical teams to shape, scope, and validate solutions that address real operational challenges.
