About this position
The purpose of a Cargo Attendant is to work within the parameters of a safe working culture while taking direction and guidance from the Coordinator, Cargo Services. The Cargo Attendant will be responsible for promoting a high level of customer service while working directly with both internal and external customers. The Cargo Attendant will be responsible for ensuring that they follow the company's Standard Operating Procedures without deviation and promote a safe working culture within its group.
Please note this is a temporary position ending approximately August 31, 2026.
Reporting to: Manager, Cargo & Ramp
Level: As per the UNIFOR Collective Agreement.
Pay Rate: Starting at $21.50 per hour, in accordance with the UNIFOR Collective Agreement, or commensurate with experience. Employees are also eligible for a Northern Living Allowance of $5.14 per hour.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must be able to perform, but not be limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:
- Responsible for following the companies Standard Operating Procedures without deviation;
- Promote a safe working culture;
- Handle all cargo;
- Perform all warehouse related duties;
- Provide excellent customer service internally and externally;
- Responsibly maintain clean and orderly work areas;
- Assist Customer Service and/or Cargo Agents if so required;
- Assist passengers with mobility and special needs;
- Perform commissary duties as part of specialized work function;
- Assist with reconfiguration of aircraft as required;
- Perform other duties and functions related to the foregoing;
- Responsible for Amazon processing and sorting;
- Prepare loads for furtherance to communities;
- Breakdown and sort in bound cargo
- Daily warehouse inventory checks;
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:
- Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, problem solving & interpersonal skills;
- Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in a high pressure, high volume environment;
- Knowledge of cargo handling and processing procedures considered an asset;
- Knowledge and experience of loading and load control on company aircraft considered an asset;
- Forklift driving experience an asset;
- Proven customer service skills;
- Must be willing to work various shifts (including evenings, holidays and weekends);
- Must be able to obtain and retain a dangerous goods handling certificate;
- Ability to communicate in Inuktitut a definite asset;
- Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
Please note: Relocation assistance is not available for this position. The successful candidate must be located in Yellowknife, NT.
Please note: This job entails irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, and shift work. Shift schedules will be bid in order of seniority. As a result, we cannot provide you with a schedule around your current job, school schedule, activities, etc. You are however able to shift trade with your colleagues- but you are responsible for the shifts that you are scheduled.
Employees will be given a minimum of (7) calendar days to select their shifts and the work schedule will be finalized (14) days prior to the effective date.
