The General Manager is responsible for our Mid-Canada Mod (MC2) and Avionics Design Services (ADS) locations based at Waterloo and Pearson airports, reporting to the Vice President, MRO and Asset Management. This leadership position will drive safety culture, motivate, and lead people to achieve business results, all while meeting customer expectations. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of our operations, from strategic planning to daily management, ensuring that we maintain our position at the forefront of technological innovation and operational efficiency. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record of success in the aerospace industry, who can lead teams effectively and drive the company towards its growth objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities Leadership and Strategy:

  • Provide visionary leadership and develop strategic plans to enhance our market position.
  • Builds a ‘one team’ culture, continue to ensure highest level of engagement and efficiency.
  • Demonstrates leadership to supervision and hourly employees to ensure consistent quality of work.
  • Hires, supervises, directs and develops staff, monitoring performance in accordance with goals and objectives. Leads, coaches and mentors staff recognizing the importance of leadership, supervisory and technical training. Develops and sustains a flexible, engaged workforce encouraging staff to pursue opportunities that complement their skills and experience.
  • Works collaboratively with staff to resolve technical or interpersonal issues encountered while doing their work; monitors work assignments ensuring they have the appropriate resourcing and tools.
  • Facilitates information sharing to transfer knowledge and experience and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
  • Encourages employee engagement and contribution through recognition of contributions, solicitation of input to operational issues/bottlenecks, transparency in progression/promotion opportunities and other engagement opportunities.

Operations Management:

  • Drives a safety culture; ensures work is carried out in accordance with organizational safety, quality standards and all other applicable policies, regulation and/or legislation.
  • Accountable to set and achieve the business metrics including schedule adherence, labour efficiency, safety and overhead expenses.
  • Drives efficiencies in all areas of the operations and focuses team on continuous improvement of same.
  • Ensures the on-time fulfillment of customer orders within the specifications and ensuring the highest customer satisfaction.
  • Encourages and implements new and innovative ideas for improving program performance and keeps current on industry best practices.
  • Facilitates effective production, supply chain, program management, and continuous improvement by working closely with cross functional departments within the organization.
  • Ensures effective execution of project plans and schedules.
  • Escalates potential problems, work interferences, budget variances or schedule difficulties.

Financial Oversight:

  • Manage financial performance including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Achieve profitability targets and operational efficiencies.

Customer Relations:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers.
  • Understand customer needs and expectations to deliver exceptional service and solutions.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Prioritize safety, quality, and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

  • University Degree or equivalent (Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, Aerospace).
  • 10 + years’ experience in senior leadership roles within the aerospace industry.
  • Prior experience managing functional area management (e.g., production management, quality, supply chain, etc.).
  • Experience with full P&L ownership.
  • Strong entrepreneurial leadership capabilities with the ability to inspire and motivate teams toward achieving ambitious goals.
  • Proven problem solving/continuous improvement skills.
  • Strong communicator, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent financial acumen with proficiency in managing budgets, P&L statements, and financial forecasts.
  • Ability to build relationships and negotiate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
