The Senior Specialist II, Cost and Customs will be responsible for the management of overall logistics cost for Samsung Canada’s imported goods from various global points of origin.

The position will liaise directly with our Finance, Sales, Supply Chain Management and 3rd Party Logistics partners, as well as with our customs clearance providers and the Canadian Border Services Agency (CSBA) / border agencies as required.

The role is responsible for a high-level understanding and control of logistics cost processes across different divisions, products and customer fulfillment directives, and will monitor and control the cost process of daily spend, weekly reporting and monthly results versus management plans.

Through this responsibility of cost management, the position will be expected to provide proactive, expert-level solutions / suggestions for mitigating extraneous cost, avoiding exception-based spending in addition to implementing solutions for future-proof cost reduction and savings initiatives for Samsung Canada’s entire logistics budget.

In addition to cost process ownership and related duties, the role will provide guidance and leadership on Harmonized System code classification in Canada, import duties and related recoup / amendment process and new product set-up responsibilities for proper classification and guidance of Canadian imported goods across multiple points of origin.

Role and Responsibilities

  • High-level logistics cost tracking, accrual / cost management forecast (CMF) reporting and analysis; including projections and forecasting of expected spend, risk, and over & above costs; processing of invoices as required.
  • Monitor spend and create early warnings on cost issues, over-budget spend and divisional logistics cost of business.
  • Suggests, leads and implements cost-avoidance initiatives and savings protocols across the entire logistics cost center spend for Canadian operations.
  • High-level logistics cost tracking with monthly executive breakout.
  • Provide leadership / training to all internal and external customers regarding cost avoidance and best practices for proper spend.
  • Logistics tariff negotiation and coordination within partner requirements.
  • CBSA coordination for duties / Harmonized System classification / reclamation process.
  • Commercial invoice / trade agreement liaison with Samsung’s logistic partner company.
  • Single point of contact for tariff and cost process management within our internal customer database and external importation / customs provision affiliates.
  • Single point of contact for audits / finance review.
  • Ad-hoc reporting and duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

Requirements

Education:

  • Post-secondary education from a recognized college or university required.
  • CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) preferred.
  • Global Supply Chain/International Logistics training.
  • Logistics designations/Professional Accreditation (CCLP, P.Log, etc.), an asset.
  • International Incoterms/Trade Agreements expertise (NAFTA, etc.).

Knowledge:

  • SAP / ERP competency required.
  • Experienced in Warehouse Management Platforms an asset.
  • Intermediate MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent knowledge of Canadian Importation Law.
  • Customs management.
  • Tariff structures.
  • Risk / Control management of spend across multiple Logistics cost points.
  • Data retrieval and manipulation experience with demonstrable, verifiable output and report creation.

Experience:

  • Canadian customs and importation expertise, inclusive of International Incoterms/trade agreements/global supply realization experience, an asset.
  • 3-5+ years logistics cost management inclusive of invoice verification process, tariff master creation and maintenance.
  • Demonstrable understanding of cost-avoidance measures and leadership / implementation of same, with proven results.
  • Strong consumer goods market familiarity in Canada.
