Commercial Operations Project Manager – Packaging Re-brand (12-month contract)
About the role
Nature’s Path is embarking on a comprehensive packaging redesign covering over 220 SKUs across multiple formats and sizes. We need a great project manager to oversee the end-to-end commercialization process, from design through production, shipping, and shelf launch; ensuring on time and on budget execution across the US and Canadian markets. Please note, this is a one year contract.
Key Responsibilities:
- Full cycle‑ project leadership: Manage the packaging redesign program from initiation through to rollout, coordinating schedules, budgets, risk management, and post‑launch evaluations.
- Cross functional‑ liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact between Sales, Marketing Services, Creative, Brand, Marketing Analytics, Regulatory (QA), R&D, Supply Chain, Packaging Procurement, Demand Planning, Operations Planning, Production Plants, and external manufacturers‑ to drive project alignment and resolve issues.
- Stakeholder communication: Provide regular status updates to leadership, deliver concise summaries for key milestones, and lead weekly cross functional‑ meetings to keep teams aligned.
- Process & timeline management: Develop and maintain detailed project timeline accounting all cross functional teams: design adaptations, regulatory reviews, production, and distribution. Monitor milestones, anticipate bottlenecks, and adjust schedules when needed.
- Scope & resource planning: Work with department leads to assess resource capacity (internal and freelance) for each wave of SKUs.
- Quality & consistency: Ensure brand standards and market regulatory requirements are maintained across all packaging executions (graphics, copy, regulatory compliance, die-lines) and that pack formats are adapted correctly
Packaging production coordination:
- Request component part numbers from purchasers.
- Liaise with procurement to ensure timely sourcing of materials.
- Manage vendor relationships and ensure packaging specs are aligned with brand and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee Proof HQ checks and packaging checklist sign-offs.
- Work closely with cross functional partners to ensure all relevant inputs are captured and maintained when prioritizing workload (e.g. sequencing, inventory management, production dates etc.)
- Create and maintain packaging content grid for all packaging components
- Maintain accurate records of packaging changes – to assist with Regulatory audits and/or product recalls
- Oversee boxshots and packaging flats distribution across all platforms (Salsify, MV etc.)
- Partner with supply chain teams to secure packaging components, die-lines, and structural samples
- Monitor production lead times and shipment tracking to ensure on-shelf dates are met.
- Coordinate with printers and vendors for upload schedules and run-out dates.
- Assign tasks and deadlines in Asana or MS Project templates.
- Support Creative team with beauty pack production, ordering and shipping product to production partners
- Coordinate with R&D and regulatory teams for PRF updates and health claim validations.
- Ensure capacity planning and resource allocation across internal and freelance teams.
- Track shipments and ensure alignment with retail launch timelines.
- Communicate with demand planning and operations teams to forecast and manage inventory.
- Facilitate GS1/ECC, MPSP setup and customer communication for first production and ship dates.
- Lead post-launch evaluations and ensure feedback loops are closed.
Risk & change management:
- Identify project risks early, propose mitigation plans, and document scope changes. Ensure all stakeholders are informed and aligned.
- Data reporting: Compile packaging data (e.g., SKUs, sizes, lead times, costs) and prepare reports or presentations summarizing project progress and budget adherence.
- Process improvement: Propose and implement improvements in workflow, documentation, and communication that increase efficiency and quality in future innovations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5+ years of project management experience, preferably in consumer-packaged goods (CPG) or food manufacturing, with a track record of delivering packaging or innovation projects.
- Proven high level expertise in creative operations, packaging production, product manufacturing, and logistics, with a track record of collaborating cross-functionally with sales and operations to deliver seamless in-market execution.
- Strong understanding of packaging production processes, product development life cycles, and go‑to‑market logistics (including manufacturing, shipping, and shelf placement).
- Proficient in project management software with the ability to build and manage detailed schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills—able to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels and articulate complex information in a clear, concise manner.
- Strong problem-solving‑ skills, business acumen, and a collaborative mindset; comfortable managing change and driving process improvements.
- Detail oriented, ‑well organized, and comfortable working in a ‑fast paced‑ environment with shifting priorities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Operations Management or a related field; PMP must
