Position Overview
The General Sales Manager (GSM) is responsible for leading and driving the overall performance of the dealership’s Sales Department. This role provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and hands-on leadership to ensure sales targets, gross profit objectives, and customer satisfaction standards are consistently achieved.
The GSM is accountable for coaching and developing the sales team, structuring and desking deals, managing inventory strategy, and ensuring compliance with all manufacturer and provincial requirements. Working closely with senior leadership and department managers, the General Sales Manager plays a critical role in fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.
This position requires strong leadership, analytical decision-making, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven automotive retail environment.
Pay Rate: Estimated total compensation ranges from $100,000 to $150,000, inclusive of salary and bonus.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all aspects of the dealership’s Sales Department
- Maintain exceptional customer satisfaction standards
- Address and resolve escalated customer concerns
- Desk and structure vehicle sales deals
- Collaborate with the Service Manager to ensure timely vehicle preparation and delivery
- Review and appraise trade-ins
- Conduct regular meetings with Sales Consultants and senior leadership to review performance and strategy
- Stay current on manufacturer programs, financial institution offerings, and promotions, ensuring team awareness and compliance
- Monitor and manage inventory daily to optimize availability and merchandising
- Promote continuous training through daily and weekly sales meetings
- Ensure compliance with all provincial licensing and regulatory requirements
Qualifications Required
- Ford experience considered a strong asset
- Proven leadership and team development skills
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
- Strong negotiation and decision-making abilities
- Customer-focused mindset
- Positive, solutions-oriented attitude
- Automotive sales experience preferred
- Minimum two (2) years of management experience
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License
- Valid OMVIC License preferred
