About the role
We are looking to hire a Food Services Program Instructor to join our team at Stepping Stones Crisis Society. This role develops and delivers cooking and nutrition programs to improve food literacy, skills, and confidence for participants in the shelter and the wider community. The position also supervises the Kitchen Aide and oversees day-to-day kitchen operations.
Duties:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate food skills and nutrition programs.
- Lead cooking classes, food handling workshops, and community kitchen sessions.
- Support food preparation and catering for internal and external events.
- Coordinate meal planning, purchasing, and inventory within budget.
- Ensure safe food handling and maintain kitchen hygiene standards.
- Recruit and support program participants and volunteers.
- Build community partnerships to enhance programming.
- Supervise and train the Kitchen Aide and volunteers.
- Collaborate with other programs to provide integrated client support.
The ideal candidate would:
- Have a post-secondary diploma or degree in nutrition, culinary arts, community development, or a related field.
- Have at least 3 years’ experience in program development, facilitation, and outreach.
- Be knowledgeable in healthy cooking, nutrition, and food safety.
- Have experience supervising staff or volunteers.
- Be able to work effectively with diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups.
- Have strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Hold a Food Handler Certificate and Standard First Aid/CPR certification.
- Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s licence and clear Criminal & Child Intervention Checks.
