Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

The purpose of the expectation task list is to identify and clarify what management expects from the incumbent.The following expectations and tasks will be part of the annual performance appraisals; your merit increase will be based on the level of performance in each of the following areas.

Expectations may change year to year and both parties should use the annual performance appraisal to determine realistic and equitable goals and outcomes for the upcoming performance year.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

  • Contact those experiencing homelessness and develop trusting relationships
  • Assess needs of clients on caseload and connect them with the appropriate service, including shelter, housing, addictions, mental health, etc.
  • Record and maintain statistical information regarding the Outreach Program within parameters set by The Salvation Army and funders
  • Network with community agencies to aid in outreach potential
  • Ensure proper maintenance of outreach vehicle
  • Facilitate commencement of client action plan and monitor daily
  • Perform all necessary clerical duties for client documentation, including Service Forms, computer entries, and logbook entries
  • Enforce agency rules and expectations consistently
  • Attend all authorized seminars, staff meetings and training sessions as requested
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values & philosophy of The Salvation Army and the Gateway
  • Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in-service Training
  • Engage in formal Evaluations Sessions with Supervisor at 3 months during first year of employment and annually thereafter
  • Read and follow the Policy & Procedures Manual and the Employees Handbook. Every employee must read (and sign that they have read) a copy of Hostel Standards & Guidelines and understand that they will be required to adhere to all guidelines in their dealings with Clients as well as with Staff and Administration
  • Become familiar with the provisions of the position description & operations manual which will be provided for each job position
  • As required and is applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to management
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner

The above responsibilities are to be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

  • Reports to the Outreach Supervisor

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Wednesday to Sunday
  • 40 hours per week
  • Outreach activities completed while hiking parks, transportation corridors and ravine lands in all weather conditions
  • Some administrative duties onsite at 107 Jarvis St.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • High School Graduate with some further education in social sciences field or equivalent experience
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid
  • Certification in Crisis Intervention
  • Valid driver’s license

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Knowledge and understanding of homelessness, addictions and mental health
  • Basic computer and clerical skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Ability to function as a team member
  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $20.25 to $25.31 with a maximum of $30.37.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
