About the role

Description: The Recreation Assistant plans, organizes and promotes a variety of meaningful recreation, leisure and social activities for clients, based on the clients' interests and abilities. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 41 Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: High School diploma or recognized equivalent required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to speak, read and write fluently in the English language required. Strong communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to meet varying needs. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage residents. Interest and commitment to working with residents experiencing cognitive and physical impairments. One year experience in a healthcare setting. One year experience facilitating recreation programming with a special population.

Preferred Qualifications:

Post-secondary education in a related field preferred. Proficiency with computers preferred. Class 4 driver’s license preferred. Possess skills in arts and crafts, music, drama and/or cultural arts. Recent Continuing Care experience.
