Reports to: People Team Lead for Benefits, Leaves and Accommodations
Salary Range: $79,000 - $90,000 per annum
Preferred Location(s): BC, or Ontario
Language Requirements: English required; French is an asset.
Summary
This role will focus their time supporting the Castlemain business including the large, long term First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle Claims Helper Program, by assisting with benefits enrollment and determining eligibility, answering general questions, maintaining database and files, and ensuring compliance with required benefit notices. Approximately 65% of the time this role will support end to end process of leaves, accommodations and return to work plans for Castlemain. In this role you will be working with sensitive and thoughtful subject matters that may be emotionally challenging and complex. In your role you will need to provide a safe and respectful space for dialogue.

Our team is dedicated to providing trauma-informed, culturally safe communications and community support programs.
The First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle Settlement is aimed at compensating those harmed by discriminatory underfunding of the First Nations Child and Family Services Program, as well as those impacted by the federal government’s narrow interpretation of Jordan’s Principle. The Settlement Agreement was approved by the Federal Court on October 23, 2023.
Benefits, Leaves and Accommodations
- Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
- Responsible for day to day administration of benefits plans including changes, and terminations.
- Ensures the accuracy of all benefit enrollments to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
- Assists with questions regarding benefit claim issues and plan changes.
- Assists with questions regarding leaves and accommodations.
- Assists Benefits lead in obtaining information in renewal process of any benefit programs.
- Accurately manages HRIS, assuring compliance and confidentiality.
- Is the main point of contact and will lead the end-to-end process for any leave requests, accommodations and return to programs as required in Castlemain.
Benefits Operations
- Prepares pre-boarding paperwork required to place new hires on payroll and sets up person’s profile in HRIS.
- Assists with orientation to support a positive experience for new hires.
- Keeps records up-to-date in HRIS by processing changes in a timely manner.
- Processes new-hire, status change, and termination paperwork.
- Other operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum five years’ experience in HR / People related roles that focus on benefits, leaves and accommodations.
- Successful background check.
Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of benefits, leaves and accommodations process and management of these programs.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and successful track record in working with staff at all levels.
- Consistently demonstrates a spirit of teamwork and readily collaborates with others.
- High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and reasoning skills to lead operational excellence.
- Consistently adheres to all company policies, procedures, and practices.
- Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability. Well-honed interpersonal and communication skills will provide the sensitivity and relationship building skills required to work collaboratively with a successful track record in working with people at all levels.
- Solid knowledge of Canada Labour Code, Employment Standard Act, Human Rights and other applicable employment legislation across the country.
- Demonstrated knowledge and interest in Indigenous issues in Canada
- Self-identifying as Indigenous and/or having first-hand knowledge or experience living in and/or working with an Indigenous community will be considered an asset.
