Wellness Worker Supervisor

Full Time, Term 1 Year

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. TI has over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services. The Wellness Worker (WW) Supervisor provides direct leadership and oversight to the Wellness Worker team and the Food Services Coordinator. Reporting to the Treatment Manager, the Wellness Worker Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the Mamisarvik Healing Centre, with a focus on maintaining service quality, cultural safety, and a safe and supportive environment for all participants.

They work collaboratively with team members, Elders, clinical staff, and other program areas to support the completion of daily tasks and uphold the goals and objectives set by the Treatment Manager. The WW Supervisor is responsible for monitoring productivity, ensuring adherence to policies and cultural protocols, offering guidance, and fostering a supportive, accountable, and culturally grounded work environment.

As the primary point of contact for the Wellness Worker team, the Supervisor addresses questions, concerns, and operational issues. They are expected to resolve day-to-day challenges independently—such as adjusting staffing or reassigning duties—and determine when matters require escalation to the Treatment Manager for further direction or support. The WW Supervisor participates in staff meetings, contributes to program planning, and provides regular updates on team performance and operational needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to the Wellness Worker team and the Food Services Coordinator, ensuring services are delivered in a trauma-informed, culturally safe, and client-centered manner.
  • Assign daily tasks, set priorities, and coordinate workflow to meet program objectives and maintain smooth residential operations.
  • Monitor team performance in real time, offering coaching, guidance, and problem-solving support to ensure consistent service quality.
  • Facilitate open, respectful communication within the team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Ensure kitchen and meal service operations align with cultural protocols and health and safety standards.
  • Participate in recruitment processes for Wellness Workers and the Food Services Coordinator, including interviews, candidate evaluations, and reference checks.
  • Lead staff orientation, ensuring new hires understand program expectations, operational procedures, and organizational policies.
  • Develop and deliver training that enhances staff skills in areas such as trauma-informed care, cultural safety, crisis intervention, and program facilitation.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship, identifying skill gaps and coordinating professional development opportunities in collaboration with the Treatment Manager.
  • Establish clear, measurable performance expectations for staff that align with TI’s mission, values, and service standards.
  • Conduct regular check-ins, performance evaluations, and constructive feedback sessions to promote accountability and growth.
  • Identify and acknowledge high-performing staff, while addressing performance concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports and recommendations regarding staff performance, training needs, and operational improvements to the Treatment Manager.
  • Develop and maintain staff schedules, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Manage leave requests, schedule changes, and unexpected absences in a fair and transparent manner.
  • Maintain accurate and organized personnel records, shift reports, and operational documentation.
  • Oversee the completion and quality of staff documentation, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with policy.
  • Act as the first point of escalation for client concerns, staff challenges, or operational issues, resolving them within scope of authority and escalating when necessary.
  • Support the team in responding to crises, ensuring interventions are safe, culturally appropriate, and in line with trauma-informed best practices.
  • Participate in the rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours guidance and operational decision-making.
  • Step in to assist with direct service delivery only when operational needs require, ensuring the centre maintains continuity of care during staff shortages or emergencies.
  • Collaborate with the Treatment Manager, Elders, and clinical staff to ensure all Wellness Worker activities reflect Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) principles and trauma-informed best practices.
  • Monitor program delivery for consistency, quality, and cultural safety, making adjustments as needed to improve outcomes for clients.
  • Gather staff and client feedback to identify service gaps, recommend enhancements, and implement approved changes.
  • Support evaluation processes, including data collection and reporting, to meet internal, community, and funder requirements.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional healing methods and practices. Excellent communication skills. Fluency in English is required; fluency in Inuktitut is preferred. Self‐starter with the ability to initiate, lead, and provide coaching to staff. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and guide staff. Conflict resolution and problem‐solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Knowledge of trauma‐informed care principles and their application in residential healing environments. Commitment to culturally safe, anti‐oppressive, and client‐centered service delivery.

Strong organizational and time‐management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‐paced environment. Attention to detail in documentation, scheduling, and reporting. Valid driver’s license without restrictions and access to a reliable vehicle are definite assets. Proven good attendance record and ability to maintain it to meet the program’s needs.

Clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Availability to work evenings and weekends is required. Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video-conferencing platforms and electronic records management applications is required. Ability to speak Inuktitut is preferred.

Undergraduate Degree in social work, social services, human services or directly related education is required. Some formal administrative training or efficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe is required.

Five plus years’ experience in community-based service organization is required. Two plus years’ experience in team supervision experience and administrative experience (schedules and programming is required. CPR, Crisis Intervention and Prevention, Suicide Intervention and prevention skills training, food handling and preparation and any other relevant certifications is preferred.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary range is $65,000 to $67,000 annually
