If so, consider this opportunity with the Fleet, Supply & Weapons Services Bureau where you will advise staff, provide advice to senior management, work with partners and manage a variety of complex projects.

Note:
We are looking to fill Assistant Manager positions within the following Sections:

  • Weapons Services Section

  • Supply Services Section

This is an operational position requiring a high level of engagement with the teams and stakeholders. The successful applicant will be required to report a work location in Orillia to perform their duties, five (5) days a week, in accordance with Ontario Public Service workplace policies.

Deliver on Business Goals
Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the team towards the achievement of its business goals. It will be your responsibility to inspire and motivate your team to deliver their best performance and align the team's daily actions with the strategic vision of the Bureau.

In this role, you will:

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of a specialty services area.
  • Ensure the delivery of high quality, value added and related services that adhere to standards for consistent service, and support OPP programs and initiatives.
  • Supervise the activities of the assigned work location and participate actively as a member of the management team and contribute to the planning and controlling of expenditures.
  • Manage issues related to all functions of the unit including liaison with other OPP staff and experts to resolve program and operational issues.
  • Participate as a member of the management team and contributes to decision making.
  • Supports strategic planning, business directions, contingency planning and operational policy development for program improvement and in critical issues management.
  • Prepare briefing notes and present decisions to leaders and partners.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.

Leadership Experience

  • You know and can apply financial policies, procedures and practices to assist with the development of the procurement plan, budget reconciliation process and the tracking of expenditures.
  • You have know and can apply leadership, organizational development theories, principles and practices.
  • You can supervise, ensure employee accountability, coach, develop and manage performance, motivate, build a cohesive team and coordinate the activities of staff.

Industry Knowledge - Weapon and Supply Services

  • You know and can interpret provincial and federal statutes concerning weapons control, policies and programs such as the Firearms Act including the Public Agents Firearms Regulations, the Police Services Act including Ontario Regulation 926: Equipment and Use of Force.
  • You can use your knowledge to effectively assist the Manager, Weapons Services or Supply Section to deliver the programs and services for the section.
  • You have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Illness Injury and Employment Accommodation Program, Human Rights Code, Respectful Workplace Programs and Workplace Violence Prevention Policy to manage staff.
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario Public Service (OPS) Procurement Directive, and other procurement and purchasing policies and best practices.
  • You can use your knowledge to provide technical guidance to staff about supply chain management strategies.
  • You know theories, principles and practices of vendor management, purchasing and financial policies to provide advice to senior management and subject expertise.

Strategic Thinking

  • You have analytical, research and problem-solving skills to review section policies, procedures, standards and Staffing Operating Policies.
  • You can address issues relating to use of force equipment and when dealing with staff.
  • You have organizational skills to manage several projects concurrently and provide timely updates on a regular basis to the WSS Manager.

Relationship Management

  • You have demonstrated interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective customer, vendor and internal relationships.

Communication Skills

  • You can write reports, prepare briefing notes, business cases, and information packages.
  • You know and can use computers and Microsoft suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
