Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

The Retreat and Conference Centre Director provides innovative leadership in the administration the Conference Centre. The incumbent provides vision and direction for all business and operational matters. Focus areas include operations and standards, community outreach, finance, property, marketing and human relations to enhance capacity, accountability and effectiveness.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership to Jackson’s Point Conference Centre operations, aligning with The Salvation Army’s mission, vision, and values, and execute long-term strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficient performance, guest satisfaction, and compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Set strategic direction, recommend changes to policies, and liaise with divisional headquarters for support in finance, property, and human relations.
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies, including web development, to maximize sales, ensuring yearly revenue of at least $1.5M.
  • Address and resolve operational risks, ensuring guest safety and satisfaction while managing property security.
  • Manage budgets, analyze financial performance, and maintain financial records related to room rates, expenses, and promotional strategies.
  • Ensure building and equipment maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, landscaping, and renovations, adhering to timelines and budget.
  • Oversee hiring, training, and performance evaluations of staff, ensuring adherence to The Salvation Army’s standards and policies.
  • Handle administrative duties such as tracking expenses, managing payroll, and processing requisitions for services or supplies.
  • Ensure adherence to Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), report infractions, and ensure staff are trained in emergency procedures.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of an Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Hotel/Hospitality Management, or relevant field.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, own vehicle, and insurance; is required.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

  • A minimum of five 5 years + years’ experience in hotel management, business management, human resources management, budget management/controls, supervising/managing people, managing resources and communicating orally and in corresponding with suppliers.
  • Strong understanding of hotel management best practices and data entry software.
  • Knowledge of and understanding of all hotel operating procedures, hotel management best practices and relevant legislation and guidelines.
  • Proficient computer skills in using all aspects of Microsoft Office; knowledge of hotel management software is an advantage.

  • Understanding and supporting The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose in Canada, aligning responsibilities with the organization's values.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks and meet organizational screening requirements for safeguarding.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $62,673.90 to $78,342.38 with a maximum of $94,010.85.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
