About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Recreation Centre, the Recreation and Engagement Coordinator creates opportunities for RRU students and community members to engage in health and fitness programming, and also assists in the oversight of Recreation Centre operations. This includes supervising casual Recreation Centre staff, as well as assistance with equipment purchases and maintenance. The Coordinator is responsible for developing and delivering services and programming that support student wellness and engagement. This includes, but is not limited to, health and fitness programming, tournaments, intermural style activities, and special events. Through active programming and collaboration with other units, this position also helps foster positive connections between students, faculty, staff and local community members. The person will also support to the Manager in areas of special projects (including social media, marketing projects and community events). The Recreation and Engagement Coordinator is also responsible for providing frontline customer service and offering advice related to fitness and safety to all members and students when needed. They also fulfil the general administrative duties of the Recreation Centre front desk, including reception, reservations, bookings, laundry, cash transactions and the general operational needs of the gym when the Manager is not available.

Job Requirements

  • Current Basic First Aid certification.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience working in recreation, fitness, or social programming.
  • Experience supervising staff; a demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the ability to lead within a team.
  • Experience planning and leading activities, events, and tournaments.
  • A caring, welcoming attitude and a genuine interest in customer needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer management techniques.
  • Demonstrated competence and practical experience working with individuals and groups from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability, as well as a high level of diplomacy, tact, and judgment necessary when dealing with difficult situations.
  • Ability to create effective relationships with students, faculty and staff in order to maintain high levels of student engagement.
  • Motivated, flexible and enjoys dynamic, multi-task work environment with interruptions.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with MS Word, Excel and RRU’s point of sales system (Computer ease) as well as different channels of social media.
  • Enthusiasm for fitness.

Additional Information

This is a regular, part-time position working 30 hours per week. This position has been evaluated at ADM-D with a salary range of $59,484 (minimum) to $69,884 (midpoint) to $80,284 (maximum) per annum. Employment offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
