Conditions of Employment:

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

• Must be registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba

• Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License with access to a vehicle

• Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment, including near or on water, in both winter and summer in extreme temperatures

• Must be physically capable of performing the duties and functions of the job including working at outdoor work sites, in confined spaces and extreme heights, and carrying out physical activities such as standing, sitting, walking

• Must be able to work extended hours and on weekends as required & Must be able to travel throughout Manitoba by ground and air transportation and be away from home for extended periods

Qualifications:

Essential:

• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or equivalency recognized by Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
• Extensive experience in bridge engineering (structural, geotechnical, hydro-technical and transportation engineering)
• Experience preparing and administering Engineering Service Provider (ESP) contracts
• Experience in project management including planning, design, environmental mitigation and approvals, construction, and maintenance of bridges and highway structures
• Experience in a leadership/supervisory role with the ability to coach and mentor staff
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
• Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgement
• Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences
• Effective written communication skills including the ability to prepare information for others

Duties:

The Consultant Services Engineer provides specialized engineering services encompassing the planning, procurement and management of Engineering Service Provider (ESP) assignments for bridges and highway structures on the Highway and Water Infrastructure Capital and Preservation Programs. Provides input into the planning and overall management of ESP assignments. Develops Branch processes for the development and management of ESP assignments and provides technical expertise and guidance to other professional staff in the Branch delivering ESP assignments.
