Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

As the Mining Sales Manager, you’ll architect strategic deals, lead negotiations, and deliver tailored solutions that drive real value for our customers. This is a high-impact role where you’ll be the central owner of machine sales, revenue growth, and strategic deal execution. From setting annual Percentage of Industry Sales (PINS) targets to crafting compelling value-based proposals, you’ll be the go-to expert when customers are ready to expand operations or launch new sites.

As a leader in this role, you’ll be responsible for driving team performance and fostering a culture of growth and accountability. You will oversee all personnel matters, including coaching, development, and performance evaluations for direct reports.

What You’ll Lead:

  • Strategic Deal Architect: Own the end-to-end deal strategy—pricing, approvals, and coordination across technology, services, and strategic accounts.
  • Customer-Centric Solutions: Leverage deep customer insights to build proposals that align with their value drivers and operational goals.
  • Sales Leadership: Drive machine sales, Customer Value Agreement (CVA) point-of-sale execution, and revenue growth with precision and creativity.
  • Market Expansion: Be the catalyst when customers initiate new projects—leading with strategy, vision, and execution to deliver customized solutions.

What you will do:

  • Spearhead commercial strategy for Caterpillar’s Surface and Underground Mining business across Canada.

  • Build and nurture high-level relationships with dealers and decision-makers to maximize Caterpillar’s market share.

  • Collaborate with Account Product Support Managers and Site Performance Managers to align strategies and deliver exceptional customer outcomes.

  • Ensure every deal delivers strong financial returns for Caterpillar, dealers, and customers alike.

  • Develop and maintain robust commercial processes between Caterpillar, dealers, and key accounts.

  • Influence commercial decisions to reduce liabilities and enhance profitability.

  • Manage pricing, product support terms, and inventory allocation for large mining equipment.

  • Provide strategic input to leadership on product performance, dealer benchmarks, and customer satisfaction.

  • Lead and mentor a team of Industry Representatives — driving performance and professional growth.

What skills you will have:

Customer Focus: Extensive experience collaborating with Dealers and end users of machines and/or engines. Skilled in identifying customer priorities and integrating them into business decisions to deliver customized, value-driven solutions.

Industry Knowledge: Well-versed in the Mining and Heavy Equipment industries, including key trends, challenges, regulatory factors, and influential players. Adept at applying this knowledge to a variety of business contexts.

Negotiating: Proficient in conducting successful negotiations across internal teams, Dealers, and clients. Known for fostering constructive, collaborative discussions that lead to mutually beneficial outcomes.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Effective Communications: Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with complex issues, and persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.

Relationship Management: Ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, Dealers, and peers.

Business Development: Ability to explore and develop potential areas of business growth for the organization.

Value Selling: Ability to provide overall product/service 'value' and to differentiate support offerings that address clearly understood customer needs.
