The Application Support Specialist is responsible for providing applications and hardware support to end users along the Primary Care attachment pathway at Kensington Health and Mid-West Toronto Ontario Health Team Partners (MWT-OHT).

This particular role will focus on the software, tools, electronic medical records (EMRs) that will allow smooth information sharing between users along the Primary Care Attachment Journey. The role will work side-by-side with members of the clinical, planning and transformation team to translate information management needs into digital reality. For example, the Application Support Specialist will work with Primary Care Attachment Liaison to enable remote access to multiple EMRs within Primary Care offices in a way that upholds personal health information (PHI) handling standards. This role will also assist in other areas of Digital Services as needed for all areas of The Kensington Health organization.

  • $71,370.00 - $85,644.00 commensurate with experience.
  • 12-month contract.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the functionality of the most common Primary Care EMRs to support remote access by Kensington team members and the safe, efficient transfer of data and information.
  • Support the procurement of additional digital solutions to enable Primary Care attachment workflows.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues for Kensington team members and other MWT-OHT partners along the pathway.
  • Work in partnership with counterpart roles at MWT-OHT partner sites to respect Information Management standards at both organizations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve process for team members, patients and end providers.
  • Partner with Ontario Health, UHN Connected Care and others, as indicated, to access, implement and optimize the provincially funded suite of digital services.
  • Understand the landscape of provincially funded digital services, including e-referral, Online Appointment Booking, eConsult, Connecting Ontario, amongst others.
  • Provide assistance with transfer and retrieval of data from applications, conduct analytics and develop reports as required.
  • Assist in imaging and deploying new desktops and laptops for Primary Care team use.
  • Manage hardware and software inventory, including medical instrument peripherals, to ensure proper tracking, maintenance and documentation.
  • Troubleshooting software related to the clinical settings.
  • Training of staff on EMR functionality the use of hardware and software.
  • Support configuration and maintenance of EMR systems and associated medical equipment to support clinical workflows.
  • Engage with EMR vendors for troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Familiar with ICD10 billing codes and OHIP billing process to support billing configurations.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Well-organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and exercise initiative.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to shift priorities on an ad hoc basis and flexibility with working hours based on clinic needs.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of overall IT operating systems, networks, and storage devices.
  • Computer proficiency working with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with PACs, DICOM, and HL7/FHIR including EMRs such as: Accuro, Welch Allyn, FORUM, Oscar, Radiant, Merge, Endoworks, Webchart, Point Click Care.
  • Familiar with web services and API integration.
  • Working knowledge on EMRs and other medical systems.
  • Working knowledge of common Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software; Internet software, Word Processing, Automated Reporting system, networking, EMR system administration, desktop software and others as required.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATION/CERTIFICATE

  •  Minimum B.Sc. or BCs degree or 3 years of hands-on experience working in a Health Care setting.
