Research Assistant, Histological Analyses and qPCR of Fish Reproduction
About the role
Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.
Position Overview:
This research assistant will preform H&E staining on sea lamprey gonadal tissue and qPCR of genes known to be involved in gonad development
Duties:
- Perform academic research, standard tests and experiments.
- Assist in data collection, data entry, analysis and interpretation.
- Assist in the acquisition of research materials and supplies.
- Perform record keeping.
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Upper level undergraduate or post-graduate in Biology or related discipline.
- Knowledge of paraffin embedding and staining of histological slides and quantitative RT-PCR.
- Have safety training and be familiar with pipetting, making solutions, and other laboratory techniques.
Condition(s) of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
The period of work will be from September 23, 2025 - April 30, 2026 and the estimated total hours of work will be 0-250 hours.
