About the role

The Department of Microbiology Immunology & Infectious Diseases in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Lab Technician This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The primary purpose of this position is to apply imaging techniques to study the lymphatic system during infection, inflammation, and cancer using both fixed samples and intravital imaging methods.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Ensure accurate, organized, and reproducible data acquisition
  • Support implementation of funded research proposals
  • Assist in developing and implementing animal care and research protocols
  • Contribute to the design and documentation of standard operating procedures and data collection methods
  • Collaborate effectively with principal investigators, technical staff, and trainees
  • Conduct experiments independently within established guidelines and provide guidance to junior trainees as appropriate
  • Maintain a detailed daily laboratory notebook of all experimental activities
  • Prepare summaries, tables, and graphics of research results for reports, presentations, and publications
  • Assist with statistical analyses and preparation of background materials for grant applications
  • Present research findings at internal seminars and scientific meetings

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, microbiology immunology, or a related field
  • A Master's degree is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet-based applications
  • Demonstrated experience in molecular biology and immunohistochemistry
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project coordination skills
  • Necessary Skills
    • Animal husbandry experience
    • Proficiency in fixed-sample and/or intravital microscopy
    • Technical understanding of fluorescent dye and protein labeling systems
