About the role

Overview

Pirates of Coffee is looking for a Coffee Roaster who is extremely motivated and passionate about the specialty coffee industry to join our Production team.

You will be responsible for roasting specialty green coffee in a timely, efficient, sanitary and consistent manner. The role will also include involvement in other related aspects of the coffee supply chain, including blend design and order fulfillment.

This is an exciting time to join Pirates of Coffee as we are currently in a growth phase and we have a global customer base (North America, Asia, Middle East, Europe). We are regularly introducing new and innovative products to push coffee to new levels and we are focused on educating coffee consumers about specialty coffee.

Role Description

This full-time role involves roasting coffee according to established profiles, preparing production batches, monitoring roast quality, and maintaining roasting and packaging equipment. Day-to-day tasks include weighing and loading green coffee, recording roast data, performing basic quality checks, packaging and labeling coffee orders, and helping keep the production space organized and safe. The role also involves learning about specialty coffee, supporting inventory counts, assisting with training activities, and communicating with the team to ensure smooth production schedules.

About You

Ability to learn and apply Coffee Roasting techniques and support day-to-day production processes. Attention to detail and commitment to Quality Control practices, including tasting, recording results, and following procedures. Interest in Specialty Coffee, including curiosity about origins, processing methods, and flavor profiles.

Problem solving abilities when issues arise

Comfortable with numbers, for keeping track of inventory, orders and for making frequent conversions between kilograms and lbs Strong Communication skills and willingness to collaborate with a small team and follow clear instructions. Openness to Training, coaching, and continuous learning in a hands-on production environment. Ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights (e.g., coffee bags), and work safely around machinery. Basic computer skills for recording data, managing simple spreadsheets, and communicating via email or messaging tools.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment Reliable availability during production hours and ability to commute to Mississauga, ON for on-site work.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience roasting specialty coffee Bonus: You are a licensed Q-Grader (CQI) Bonus: You have an SCA certification such as SCA Roasting, Brewing, Sensory etc.
