About The Role Reporting to the Parks and Roads Division Supervisors, the Equipment Operator I will be assigned general maintenance duties in the functional areas of roads, sidewalks, parks, forestry, horticulture and cemeteries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Completing Winter Maintenance using a light/medium duty truck, sidewalk tractor and hand tools.
  • Performing Park and Sports Field maintenance including garbage pickup and removal.
  • Conducting Horticultural maintenance in municipal flower and shrub beds.
  • Operating small machinery, motor equipment and commercial power tools such as grass trimmers, blowers and lawn mowers.
  • Assisting with road maintenance and repair such as pothole patching, litter and garbage collection, and providing traffic control duties.
  • Available for afterhours call in.
  • Adhering to prescribed safety practices while operating equipment and Municipal vehicles to ensure the safety of the traveling public and co-workers.
  • Ensuring all duties are be performed in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, municipal policies, and procedures.
  • Upholding the Municipality’s commitment to customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including those specific to the department.

What you bring

  • Grade 12 Secondary School education or equivalent combination of education and experience to the satisfaction of the Director of Public Works.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Driver’s License Class “G” is required, Class “DZ” will be considered an asset.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • One (1) year demonstrated experience operating and maintaining appropriate vehicles and equipment.
  • Must be capable of performing necessary physical duties for responsibilities listed above.
  • A current WHMIS Training Certificate and valid First Aid Certificate would be an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • A commitment to exceptional customer service and professionalism.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

What we offer

  • Wage: $27.98 to $34.90 - Code 3 of the 2025 Outside Collective Agreement.
  • A comprehensive benefits and pension program to ensure that your total compensation package addresses both your work and life needs.
  • Hours of work: 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Additional Information Public Works Employees are subject to standby, on call duty and may be required to work out of any Public Works location depending on work schedules and staff requirements. Employees hired externally or from another Department will be scheduled into shifts Monday through Sunday. The successful candidate will be expected to respond to after-hours calls especially during the winter season program.

A satisfactory criminal record check and proof of qualifications will be required for the successful candidate, including:

  • Proof of a current Driver’s Abstract, and at minimum a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License.
  • Proof of a valid First Aid and WHMIS Training Certificate.

Pre-employment testing may consist of written and oral assessments. To be considered successful, candidates must achieve a minimum score of 60% on each test. The highest score attained across the assessments will be used in the final award decision.
