You keep a pulse on culinary and market shifts, act as a trusted authority on flavor and food quality, and ensure Fresh Prep continues to deliver relevant, competitive, and inspiring offerings.
What You’ll Be Doing
Reporting to the Director of Product, you will guide the Culinary Product Development team, managing roadmap delivery and sprint planning to bring recipes to life that consistently meet Fresh Prep’s quality standards and business goals.
- Lead, manage, and coach the Product Development and Testing team, fostering capability, accountability, and hands-on collaboration.
- Act as a player-coach by actively participating in recipe tastings, providing direct feedback, and supporting the team through ideation, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Own and deliver the quarterly recipe roadmap in line with category strategy and business priorities.
- Translate business priorities into clear sprint plans, ensuring milestones are met and cross-team dependencies are aligned.
- Contribute directly to recipe innovation and quality by ideating and testing new meal concepts, ensuring they reflect culinary excellence and customer appeal.
- Use recipe performance data (sales, ratings, waste) and customer surveys to refine the roadmap, guide sprint priorities, and drive continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with Product Marketing to design and execute customer meal testing and surveys, using insights to optimize menu offerings.
- Set team goals and drive performance against key metrics - owning Recipe Score, while also contributing to Weekly Skip Rate and Basket Size through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Own packaging requirements, partnering with Engineering and Procurement to deliver solutions that meet quality and customer experience standards.
- Partner with Procurement on ingredient and packaging supply, approving sourcing decisions and resolving shortages with alternatives that uphold Fresh Prep’s standards.
- Lead quarterly culinary cost reviews with Purchasing, ensuring recipes remain within budget while maintaining quality and nutrition targets.
- Implement and optimize cross-department processes to improve efficiency and streamline product launches.
- Stay ahead of culinary and market trends to inform roadmap direction and maintain Fresh Prep’s competitive edge.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven experience in product management, culinary development, or food innovation (meal kit, CPG, or hospitality experience is an asset).
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
- A hands-on leadership style with the ability to coach, mentor, and directly contribute to recipe tasting and innovation.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with hands-on experience managing roadmaps and sprint planning.
- Deep knowledge of culinary standards, nutrition, and packaging in food production.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Passion for food, sustainability, and delivering excellent customer experiences.
What You Can Expect
Note: This is a 12-month contract role, with the potential to extend or transition to a permanent position, subject to performance and organizational needs. We love to keep good people at Fresh Prep!
- Competitive Contract Salary of $75,000 to $85,000
- 3 weeks paid vacation to rest and recharge
