We are looking for a Specialist, Industrial Hygiene, to work collaboratively within a team implementing key health and hygiene initiatives at BC Works Aluminum Smelter. This temporary role is ideal for someone who brings technical expertise, insight, and a collaborative approach to supporting operational excellence. Starting as soon as possible and ending on July 30, 2027.

Reporting to the Superintendent Hygiene and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

  • Conducting Industrial Hygiene Surveys to identify, assessing, and confirming exposure risks.
  • Analysing, interpreting, and evaluating exposure data to recommend improvements aimed at health harm prevention.
  • Educating, communicating and engaging with Rio Tinto HSE groups, site leaders and operational personnel.
  • Developing and implementing industrial hygiene sampling plans.
  • Performing statistical analysis of exposure data, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and company policies and standards.
  • Supporting the administration of databases such as within Cority and upholding internal standards for data quality.
  • Implementing programs for hazardous materials management, confined spaces, and respiratory protection.
  • Providing technical expertise and support to ensure compliance with site standards and assist with the preparation and planning for HSE audits (both internal and external).
  • Playing a key role in building a culture of interdependence.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Completion of post-graduate studies in Industrial Hygiene
  • A tertiary qualification in industrial hygiene, health, safety, engineering, or related field, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a health and safety position within an industrial setting
  • Demonstrated experience developing, executing, and supporting industrial hygiene programs (including monitoring, audits, investigations, risk assessments and inspections)
  • An understanding of legislative requirements relating to health surveillance and occupational hygiene
  • A team-player who can also work independently
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching abilities
  • Data analysis skills (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Cority)

The base salary range for this role is $101,040 - $151,560 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
