SCOPE:
Recreation Surrey has been offering residents diverse recreational spaces and programs to meet the needs of our communities. From gyms, pools and multi-purpose rooms to drop-in and regular recreation programs to special events, our recreation facilities aim to keep our residents healthy, active and engaged.
We're currently looking for a Recreation Programmer within Aquatics to help deliver our wide range of programs for people of all ages.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic recreation professional to be involved in aquatic programming work assisting senior supervisory staff in the development, scheduling, coordination and implementation of recreation, fitness and aquatic programs and activities. The work involves supervision and training of staff. An incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgment and action within the limits of well-defined guidelines. The successful candidate will be required to work a flexible work schedule including a mix of daytime, evenings and weekends.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and implement creative innovative and fun activities and special events.
- Develops and schedules recreation, fitness and aquatic programs and activities suited to the needs and interests of the facility participants.
- Develop and schedule lifeguarding and water safety programs.
- Develop and administer promotions and advertising related to programs and special events.
- Supervises, trains and provides leadership to staff.
- Supports with recruitment processes.
- Conducts presentations in schools, and for community groups and volunteer associations as required.
- Prepares and maintains accident and incident reports, lesson results and evaluations.
- Performs life guarding or Instructing functions including observing persons in facility, enforcing safety rules and regulations, maintaining order in the swimming and deck areas, aids persons in danger of drowning and provides First Aid treatment.
- Occasional contact with chlorine and other related chemicals required for pool operation.
- Supports aquatic volunteers.
- Perform pool maintenance duties and other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of grade 12 and;
- Actively working towards graduation from a recognized college or university level program in a related discipline and/or;
- Be a qualified Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Trainer, BCRPA Supervisor of Fitness Leaders, National Lifeguard Instructor or Trainer of Fitness Leaders and;
- Have formal lifeguard and instructor training, aquatic programming experience, and completion of pool operators course.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a lifeguard and/or swim instructors and/or aquatic programmer and/or special events coordinator, and including some supervision.
- Valid BC Drivers License.
Licenses/Certificates required:
- National Lifeguard, Pool Option
- Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor
- Standard First Aid with CPR C
- Pool Operators Level 1 (BCRPA or equivalent)
