Employment Status Part Time Employment Type Fixed Term Job Summary
The Cook is responsible for supporting catering, baking, and cooking activities for the College of New Caledonia Food Services Program. This would also include delivering food and beverages as needed.
Specific Duties
- Prepares a variety of food items including baked goods, grab and go items, soups and sauces based on levels set by the Supervisor.
- Performs food preparation activities based on appropriate daily and weekly requirements, including catering.
- Collaborates with the Food Services Supervisor on catering requests and menu recommendations to ensure appropriate pricing/costing strategy.
- Prepares catering orders by cooking, assembling and packaging with the assistance of the Line Cook, if and when required.
- Adheres to standardized recipes, specifications and portion control guidelines while also maintaining consistency ensuring high quality products.
- Sets up cold tables and soup station, and ensures both areas are fully stocked at all times and provides direction to Line Cook on shortages of items, as needed.
- Ensures that the food prep area and kitchen are clean and sanitized throughout and at the end of each shift.
- Communicates and updates Line Cook in the absence of the supervisor.
- Assists with training of new grill staff, as required.
- Reports any required maintenance/repairs needed on any equipment.
- You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.
- You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
- Other related duties as assigned by Director, Food Services Supervisor or designate.
Skills & Qualifications

Recognized one (1) year certificate in Level 2 Professional Cook Program

Food Safe Level 1 Certificate
-
3 years or more previous experience in a restaurant or food services environment prepping food, baking, and cooking food

Catering experience an asset

Effective multi-tasking skills

Knowledge of appropriate food handling procedures

Detail orientated and a strong team player

Physical ability to complete the demands of the position.
