SJC Media is Canada’s largest magazine publisher, with award-winning titles such as HELLO! Canada, Today’s Parent, and Canadian Business. Our company has been recognized as one of the best-managed in France for over 20 years

Role Overview

FASHION Magazine is Canada’s leading destination for style, beauty, and luxury. Our brand connects with a discerning audience through our print magazine, website, social media, and events. We are looking for a Head of Digital & Social to join our Toronto-based team of writers, editors, social producers, and data experts.

We’re looking for a Head of Digital & Social to lead the brand’s end-to-end digital presence—driving audience growth, shaping our editorial voice across platforms, and translating fashion, culture, and commerce into compelling, high-performing content.

The Head of Digital & Social is responsible for defining how FASHION shows up online—what we cover, how we package it, and how we reach and grow our audience. In collaboration with the senior editorial team, you will lead content strategy and execution across web, email, and social, using data, instinct, and deep fashion knowledge to drive performance.

You’ll work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and broader editorial team to align digital output with print, tentpoles, and brand priorities, while continuously evolving our approach to platform-native storytelling, SEO, and emerging formats—including AI-enabled workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Strategy & Editorial Leadership

  • Own and execute FASHION’s digital content strategy across web, newsletters, and social
  • Build and manage forward-looking content calendars that integrate editorial, print and commercial priorities
  • Run digital pitch meetings and translate ideas into clear, actionable content plans
  • Identify key fashion, celebrity and cultural moments and ensure timely, competitive coverage
  • Maintain a distinct, elevated and on-brand voice across all digital platforms
  • Oversee daily web publishing, homepage programming, and content optimization
  • Edit and package stories for performance (headlines, decks, SEO, internal linking, recirculation)
  • Monitor analytics to inform coverage decisions and content strategy
  • Share regular performance insights and apply learnings to improve output
  • Partner with product, SEO, and development teams to optimize site experience

Social Media & Audience Growth

  • Lead social strategy across Instagram, TikTok and other platforms
  • Oversee content calendars, publishing and platform-specific storytelling approaches
  • Ideate, create, and/or approve social content (Reels, TikToks, carousels, Stories)
  • Identify and execute on trend-driven, platform-native content opportunities
  • Collaborate on cover launches, tentpoles and real-time event coverage

Newsletters & Email

  • Write and edit key editions (including Fashion FWD), ensuring a strong POV and content mix
  • Optimize performance through testing (subject lines, formats, content balance)
  • Track KPIs (open rate, CTR, conversions) and refine strategy accordingly

Content Creation & Multiplatform Storytelling

  • Contribute to and edit digital content across formats, including features, quick hits, and service-driven stories
  • Translate print content into compelling digital packages
  • Produce or oversee video and social-first storytelling formats
  • Be comfortable appearing on camera or directing talent when needed
  • Work with SJC’s in-house video team on new series and video franchise ideation and execution

Operations, Workflow & AI Integration

  • Allocate digital budgets and own vendor management
  • Streamline editorial workflows across platforms, identifying efficiencies and reducing bottlenecks
  • Integrate AI tools into content creation, packaging, analytics and workflow automation

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage and mentor junior staff and interns, fostering strong digital instincts and editorial judgment
  • Provide clear feedback, training, and development opportunities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, design, video and commercial teams
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation, accountability and digital-first thinking

Brand Representation

  • Represent FASHION at industry events, press trips, and key cultural moments
  • Build relationships with brands, PRs, creators, and industry stakeholders
  • Contribute to broader brand initiatives, including print and experiential activations

Qualifications

  • 6–8+ years of experience in digital editorial, social media, or content strategy, ideally in fashion or lifestyle media
  • Proven track record of driving audience growth and engagement across digital platforms
  • Deep understanding of fashion, beauty, pop culture and internet trends

  • Experience using data tools to inform decision-making
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior staff

Nice to Have
