Algonquin College is seeking part-time professors to teach within the

Indigenous Studies Diploma

and

Indigenous Studies Foundations - Inuit, Métis, and First Nations

programs. Applicants must demonstrate knowledge related to Inuit, Métis, or First Nations communities, cultures, practices, and perspectives. Additionally, knowledge of global Indigenous perspectives is considered an asset. The professor will be responsible for facilitating and guiding learning as well as providing an effective and supportive learning environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-year diploma / degree in Indigenous Studies or equivalent Note: equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience may be accepted in place of formal education;
  • Indigenous lived experience or cultural knowledge will be considered a strong asset;
  • Candidate must have deep cultural knowledge of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada, status or non-status; gained through lived experience;
  • Minimum 2 years practical experience related to Indigenous Studies preferably in an Indigenous community;
  • Experience teaching or training in an education environment will be considered an asset;
  • Commitment to the success of learners in a postsecondary setting or in an Indigenous community setting;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated, ability to adapt to change, excellent team player;
  • Ability to work independently to complete tasks;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Other duties as assigned.

While previous teaching experience is an asset, it is not required. We provide an Introduction to Teaching at Algonquin College program as well as ongoing professional development opportunities that part-time faculty can pursue in their free time.

This position requires regular on-site work at Algonquin College’s Woodroffe Campus
