Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for teaching BAFD1000: Introduction to Black and African Diaspora Studies during the Fall 2026 Semester. The class meets in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:05am to 11:25am (Fall Term 2026/2027).
The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all teaching and administrative duties related to the course, such as preparing and delivering lectures, assessing assignments, developing course content on Brightspace, and submitting grades. Besides the scheduled class time, the instructor must hold office hours each week for student consultation. The instructor reports to the Black and African Diaspora Studies ( BAFD ) program Coordinator.
Course Description:
The course examines the intersectional perspectives of the historical, philosophical, political and aesthetic developments of social movements in the African Diaspora. Moreover, it seeks to better understand the social and political crises of the world we live in and articulate alternative approaches to conceiving the humanity of people of African descent.
Qualifications/Requirements Of Position
Candidates must show expertise in Black Studies related to the BAFD program, which could include lived experience, community knowledge, or scholarly work based on Black and African knowledge systems. Applicants should hold or be undertaking a PhD in Black Studies, Political Science, Philosophy, History, or a similar field.

Salary Range/Pay Rate As per CUPE Collective Agreement

All offers of employment as a Part-Time Academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University.
