Position Overview
This position is in Vancouver, BC.
As a Heavy Equipment Technician (HET), you will serve as the dedicated technical subject matter expert for all rental Large Equipment (LE) maintenance, inspections, and repairs across your assigned store locations. In this mobile role, you will provide critical technical expertise to store Tool Rental Center (TRC) associates, Mobile Service Technicians, and customers to ensure our fleet is safe and rental-ready. You will have the day-to-day independence to plan and coordinate your own workflow, balancing the prioritization of fleet business objectives with real-time customer service demands, allowing you to manage your stores effectively.
Required: Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician/Mechanic (Provincial Journeyman or Interprovincial Red Seal). Maintain Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) certifications.

Key Responsibilities
Diagnostics & Major Repairs: Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair advanced mechanical issues across the large equipment fleet, including gas/diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, braking, and fuel systems. Fleet Management & Mobility: Execute routine preventative maintenance, store/lift inspections, and pre-delivery inspections (PDI). Coordinate equipment deployments, store-to-store transfers, and auctions as required. Asset Protection & Compliance: Ensure asset tracking accuracy, maintain operational GPS systems, and enforce 3 points of security on all towable equipment. Certified to safely operate delivery trucks and tow tandem-axle trailers. Tech-Driven Workflows: Formulate service strategies alongside Mobile Service Technicians (MSTs). Complete all parts orders, labor tracking, and work orders efficiently in D365 and corporate mobile platforms. Downtime & Parts Management: Diagnose and order replacement parts within 48 hours of equipment being sidelined to minimize downtime, immediately notifying the Regional Rental Manager (RRM) of any delays. Associate Training & Customer Support: Actively partner with Tool Rental Center (TRC) associates to provide customer solutions and deliver hands-on training on large equipment standard operating procedures (SOPs). Rapid Field Response: Resolve urgent customer service calls by providing email updates, coordinating repair logistics, and arriving on-site within 24 hours. Safety & Transport Standards: Work in strict compliance with Home Depot safety protocols, safe lifting/driving techniques, and Hazmat procedures. Maintain flawless Ministry of Transportation compliance via Samsara Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) for driver logs and vehicle inspections.
Competencies
Action Oriented Collaborates Communicates Effectively Customer Focus Skills: Certification: Current Trade Certification as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician/Mechanic (Provincial Journeyman or Interprovincial Red Seal). Must maintain Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) certifications. Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant heavy equipment experience, light industrial, or oil & gas mechanical work experience. Technical Mastery: Proven ability to read and understand complex technical repair and parts manuals (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical). Driving & Transport Skills: Comfort driving service vehicles delivery trucks, towing tandem axle utility trailers, and a solid understanding of safe load securement and tie-downs. Must hold a valid clean drivers record, driver's license and pass a background check. Tools: Must provide your own standard tools of the trade.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports
This position reports to the Regional Rental Manager Travel Requirements: May require overnight travel less than 15% of the time.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform physical demands typical of the trade (lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, crawling under or climbing on top of equipment). Willingness to work outdoors in variable Canadian weather conditions and around dirt, grease, and high-traffic store areas.
