About the role

Main Responsibilities

  • Assess emergency scenes and patients.
  • Transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities, operating ambulances or other modes of transportation.
  • Treat patients by administering medications, advanced life support (ALS) airway adjuncts and electrical therapy.
  • Lead the ALS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes.
  • Assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as non-emergent transport (NET), are properly stocked and equipped.
  • Work in demanding environments, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment.
  • Travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g., backcountry) with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105 lbs, transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment.
  • Endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods.
  • Stand, sit, bend, twist, side‑carry up to 20 lbs in each hand and assume awkward positions.

Required Qualifications

  • Non‑restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support CPR certification.
  • Valid class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent.
  • Five‑year driver abstract current within six months with no more than six demerits prior to commencing work.
  • Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization for those who do not already hold a clinical position within AHS EMS.
  • F.A.R.E. test must be completed no more than six months prior to the date of application.
  • Ability to perform full operational duties as of start date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference given to those with previous EMS experience in a metro, suburban, rural, or inter‑facility environment and in other areas of Health Care and Public Safety.
  • Completion of additional post‑secondary programs considered an asset.
  • Proof of completion of post‑secondary education credentials.

Additional Information

  • Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends.
  • Hours per Shift: 12.
  • Length of Shift in weeks: 8.
  • Shifts per cycle: 28.
  • Minimum Salary: $35.46 per hour.
  • Maximum Salary: $46.69 per hour.
  • Vehicle Requirement: Driver's License, Vehicle Provided.
