Manager, Case Management– Investigations Manager
About the role
Position Summary...
With this posting we are sourcing resumes for two permanent full-time vacancies and one temporary 18-month contract. This role is a Field role and applicants can be located anywhere in Canada.
This role independently conducts neutral and complex workplace investigations across retail business units in Canada, with a primary focus on harassment, discrimination, and other Code of Conduct matters. This role will also work closely with the Senior Manager, Investigations, to oversee and supervise workplace investigations.
The position requires expertise in applicable law and policy, including relevant employment, harassment and human rights law relevant to workplace investigations across Canada.
In addition to supervising a team of workplace investigators, this role identifies continuous improvement opportunities, and supports team members and the Senior Manager, Investigations in ensuring investigations are conducted in a way that is fair, consistent, timely, and in compliance with all relevant laws and policies.
What you'll do...

Conduct a high volume of sensitive and complex workplace investigations, including harassment, discrimination, and Code of Conduct matters, in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and best practices. This includes reaching appropriate defensible conclusions in accordance with applicable employment-related legislation and evolving employment and human rights case law.

Effectively communicate investigative findings, policy applications, and related recommendations to HR Business Partners and legal counsel, both in writing and verbally.

Under the guidance of a Senior Manager, Investigations:
- Supervise a team of dedicated workplace investigators to ensure investigations are completed thoroughly, consistently, and within established timelines.
- Provide guidance on investigation communications, findings, and written reports to ensure clarity, accuracy, and appropriateness.
- Partner with Senior Manager, Investigations on performance feedback and career development.

Take a leadership role with investigations involving government agencies, regulatory bodies, or legal claims, partnering closely with Legal, Ethics and Compliance stakeholders.

Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to identify opportunities to streamline investigation processes, improve efficiency, and enhance overall effectiveness.

Identifies continuous improvement opportunities, including process enhancements, training opportunities, and peer collaboration to strengthen investigation capabilities.

Develop and participate in the delivery of workplace investigation training/ professional development opportunities to new investigators and others who conduct workplace investigations at Walmart.

Provide subject matter expertise in workplace investigations to various managers and HR business partners. Developing a professional reputation as neutral, experienced, and trustworthy is essential for this role.
Qualifications and Expertise
- Demonstrated experience conducting complex workplace investigations, including high-risk and high-sensitivity matters.
- Appropriate familiarity with applicable employment law and relevant legislation, including human rights, harassment, and discrimination.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in drafting investigation reports and findings.
- Strong analytical and judgment capabilities, with the ability to manage risk and make sound, defensible decisions.
- People leadership experience would be an asset, particularly experience mentoring or guiding others.
- Bachelors degree
- Legal degree an asset
- Bilingual (French and English) an asset
Skills
- Ability to support investigators with respect to workplace investigations, human rights and harassment, including appropriately prioritizing overlapping urgent/ high risk matters; written communications; responding to correspondence from legal counsel; accommodation requirements; and policy analysis.
- Ability to provide feedback / advice to management with respect to workplace investigations, human rights, and harassment.
- Ability to provide advice and direction in the face of ambiguity to business partners.
- Sound judgment. Critical in determining whether an appropriate investigation in the circumstances has been conducted and appropriately escalating complex/high risk matters.
- Ability to accommodate concurrent and significant demands in multiple areas.
- Strong communication skills. Ability to communicate through verbal and written communications clearly and concisely, with appropriate sensitivity.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and to develop strong relationships across the business, i.e. with Legal, Compliance or HR.
The pay range for this position is $91,900.00 - $126,390.00. Pay will be determined based on relevant experience.
