About the role

About Learning Buddies Network Learning Buddies Network (LBN) is a BC-based grassroots service charity that provides free one-on-one mentoring for elementary students who need support in reading and math. Students are typically identified by teachers and community partners as children who would benefit from additional academic and social-emotional support, and whose families may not be in a position to access paid tutoring due to social, linguistic, geographic, or economic barriers.

LBN recruits and trains high school, post-secondary, and community volunteers to serve as mentors and tutors. Through consistent one-on-one support, children build literacy and numeracy skills, confidence, self-esteem, and a stronger sense of belonging. At the same time, youth volunteers develop leadership, communication, and community service skills.

LBN is expanding its Indigenous programs and partnerships across British Columbia, including in rural and remote communities. This work is grounded in relationship-building, respect for Indigenous self-determination, cultural safety, humility, reciprocal partnership, and the need for accessible learning support for Indigenous children and youth.

Overview of the Position LBN is hiring an Indigenous Program Manager to lead and support the day-to-day development, coordination, and delivery of LBN’s Indigenous programs and partnerships. The successful candidate will be passionate about LBN’s mission of providing free mentoring for children who need our support, and will bring strong relationship-building, communication, planning, and operational skills.

The Indigenous Program Manager will help translate LBN’s Indigenous programming priorities into clear workplans, relationship-building approaches, program practices, and implementation systems. This includes supporting rural, remote, urban, and Lower Mainland program sites; strengthening community-informed program models; supporting Indigenous Program Ambassadors and local leads; and helping ensure program delivery is respectful, consistent, and responsive to community priorities. This role is both relational and operational. The successful candidate will help build and sustain trust-based relationships with Indigenous communities, Nations, Indigenous-led organizations, educators, families, and partners, while also ensuring that program logistics are handled with care and consistency. This includes supporting site readiness, gathering materials, coordinating student referrals, helping recruit and train mentors, supporting Ambassadors, visiting programs, tracking attendance, and ensuring that Indigenous learners are supported by safe, inclusive, culturally responsive, and well-organized programs.

The ideal candidate has connections with Indigenous communities, Indigenous-led organizations, Indigenous education programs, and/or Indigenous educators across British Columbia. Direct experience working with Indigenous learners, families, educators, Nations, or community organizations would be a strong asset.

The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director and work collaboratively with LBN staff, Indigenous Program Ambassadors, contractors, volunteers, committees, schools, Nations, and community partners.

Position type: Employee

Work hours: Work hours are flexible; however, they must overlap with core program and organizational hours as set out in the employment agreement. Current core hours are generally 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. PT, Monday to Thursday, although some work may occur outside these hours depending on program schedules, travel, community meetings, and organizational needs.

Location: LBN staff primarily work from home. This role will require travel to Indigenous communities across British Columbia. Program visits in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia may also be required.

Compensation: Compensation is expected to be in the range of $26.00 to $35.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits will be provided after 90 days of employment for full-time employees. LBN offers three weeks of vacation after the successful completion of a 90-day probationary period. Employees also receive their birthday off each year and paid time off during LBN’s annual closure between Christmas and New Year’s.
