Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
Classification: CUPE Outside Class 4

The Opportunity:
The Traffic Technician 1 works within the traffic department. This job undertakes and supports all operational
and maintenance requirements associated with traffic signage, signals, counting and line painting on District
roads.
What you will do:
• Place, install, inspect and maintain all private and highway traffic signs on the District of Muskoka
roads, including the preparation and maintenance of complete records
- Assist in the set-up, installation and removal of electronic traffic counting and speed recording devices
in order to assess the volume, type, and movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic at specified
times
- Obtain and download traffic data collected for use internally, as well as, preparation of data to be
shared with external stakeholders
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory of all signs, signals and pavement markings, including
acquiring and maintaining stock of all necessary materials
- Perform line painting layout for the District of Muskoka and area municipalities, as required, and
when necessary, assist with inspection of roadway painting contracts
- Inspect and report on all traffic signals on the District of Muskoka roads
- Monitor, report on and address road conditions and hazards as they are encountered as part of
the management of the District of Muskoka’s right of way and road corridors
- Respond to roadway emergencies outside normal business hours, when required
- Work safely and in compliance with relevant statutes and regulations and within the safe work
procedures and directives as established by the District
- Related duties as assigned
What you will need:
• Minimum of Grade 12 education and three to four years related experience in a traffic environment or
equivalent in a related municipal environment.
- Good understanding of traffic related components such as signs, signals and markings
- Knowledge of relevant traffic equipment, policies and procedures to meet safe operating and
maintenance requirements of a municipal traffic department.
- Excellent interpersonal, and related skills for dealing with District personnel and the general public.
- Demonstrated technological proficiency.
• Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license.
