Dept of Physiology & Pathophysiology-Assistant Professor
About the role
Job Description:
Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology -? Assistant Professor
University of Manitoba
The Department of Physiology & Pathophysiology in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Commencing on January 1, 2023, or on a date mutually agreed upon. Salary plus benefits will be commensurate with experience but limited by the median baseline for the Max Rady College of Medicine.
This position links with the Division of Respiratory Physiology and Disease, and the Biology of Breathing Theme in Children's Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba; therefore, we are seeking an individual with experience related to pediatric lung disorders and developmental origins of respiratory disease. We are interested in applicants with a background in respiratory physiology and lung biology, and interests in asthma, cystic fibrosis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia and/or lung development. The department specifically encourages applications from individuals with research expertise in lung epithelial pathobiology and mucosal immunology, including pathogen and virus defense mechanisms, repair and regeneration, inflammation, or muco-biology. Experience using cell and molecular biology, in vivo research models, and in vitro models such as epithelial organoids and epithelial air-liquid interface cultures are significant assets. Qualified individuals with a research focus on mechanisms of the effects of inhaled environmental exposures on lung biology are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have an aptitude for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses related to respiratory physiology, pathophysiology or pathobiology. The successful candidate should be able to contribute to the mentoring and training of undergraduate and graduate students and fellows, so a record supporting these activities is desirable. In addition, on an ad hoc basis the successful candidate will be asked to provide service on committees that support regular departmental, faculty or institutional activities (eg. hiring, faculty development, event planning).
Qualifications:
Applicants must have earned a doctorate or equivalent degree in relevant life or biomedical sciences. We are seeking individuals with postdoctoral training in respiratory pathophysiology using multi-disciplinary techniques, and a demonstrated ability to develop and implement novel experimental approaches. A record of collaboration is an important asset because the candidate should be able to establish a laboratory that interacts with members of the department304 and the larger University community. This position will have a significant research component - therefore a suitable publication history in high quality, peer-reviewed journals and the potential to secure competitive, extramural research funding is necessary.
The successful applicant will receive startup funding and will also have access to core resources including a murine lung function laboratory equipped with smoke exposure units, transgenic mouse facility, animal imaging facility, lentiviral vector production, molecular imaging, histomorphology and ultrastructural imaging, immunophenotyping and multiplex biomarker platforms, lipidomics, metabolomics, proteomics and systems biology.
