Position Overview:

The FCSS Program Assistant is responsible for providing exceptional walk-in client services and program support to the FCSS team. This role includes client assessment, information and referral, operational program support and administrative tasks. This position plays a key role in the Affordable Services Program providing intake, onboarding, and inquiry support. The FCSS Program Assistant helps the Town of Canmore create a livable community for all.

In this diverse role, you will have the opportunity to build on your exceptional communication, customer service and conflict resolution skills as you provide professional and confidential client reception, information and referral services to the public. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a fantastic team of dedicated and caring professionals who are responsible for the delivery of preventive social programs and diverse support services to the community. In this role, you will be provided with autonomy as you take the lead in creating a well-organized office environment that includes creating and managing the document management systems (electronic and filing), organizing meetings, database entry and maintenance and client program registration.

Core Accountabilities:

  • Be first point of contact for clients and connect them to the correct FCSS staff member and/or assess clients’ needs and provide information and/or referral

  • Operate within the parameters of confidentiality in the FCSS team

  • Provide core program support to the FCSS team which includes but is not limited to; registration, newsletters, intake, mailouts, event support, mailouts, invoice management and ordering/purchasing.

  • Provide core administrative support to FCSS team and the Manager of Community Social Development which includes but is not limited to; minutes, collating statistics, editing documents, intelli, SharePoint and website lead

  • Maintain knowledge of community resources and identify gaps in knowledge and client trends

  • Build and maintain relationships with human service partner agencies

  • Support the coordination and supervision of FCSS program volunteers

  • Participate in Emergency Social Services response training as required

Education & Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Office Administration or Human Service field -required

  • Additional training or courses in human service field – asset

  • Valid Alberta Class Five Driver License - required

Experience:

  • 2 years of related work experience in administration and/or a Human Service field – required

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft office programs (particularly Excel), with the ability to independently create and edit a variety of documents and spreadsheets – required

  • Excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills required

  • Knowledge of community social resources preferred

  • Experience in a municipal setting – preferred

Salary & Benefits:

  • Hourly Rate: $30.61 to $34.21 per hour to start- Pay rate will be calculated based on successful candidate’s related work experience and education.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time, permanent position (35 hours/week), Monday to Friday from 8am – 4:30pm or 8:30am - 5pm, with the expectation to occasionally work weekends and evenings. Start date: December 18th, 2025
