Job Summary Reporting to a Discipline Lead, the Electrical Designer is responsible for translating engineering concepts into accurate buildable marine construction drawings, models and documentation. This role gathers and analyzes technical information, such as sketches, datasheets, measurements, and system descriptions to develop precise drawings, system layouts, models and recommendations that align with established engineering principles, applicable codes, and project standards. As a key contributor to the discipline team, the Electrical Designer supports continuous quality improvement by helping refine processes, templates, and best practices, and may also provide technical guidance or assign work to other technical resources to ensure consistency, standardization, and high-quality design deliverables. Education Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technician or Technology Knowledge, Skills & Experience This role accepts Designers with varying levels of experience. New hires are placed in appropriate Levels (1 – 4) based on their knowledge, skills and experience. Experience in the marine industry is an asset Experience with CADMATIC, AutoCAD, and/or AutoCAD Electrical is an asset Ability to design and develop 3D models of cable trays, cable tray supports, and electrical equipment is an asset Ability to develop and maintain cable routing, cable schedules, and cable terminations is an asset Experience in developing electrical panel layouts, component placement, and bills of materials using AutoCAD Electrical is an asset Experience in reading and developing detailed schematics using AutoCAD Electrical is an asset Ability to develop and maintain general arrangement drawings and 3D model coordination is an asset Experience in preparing electrical wiring drawings such as cable diagrams and termination drawings is an asset Experience in the design, development, and implementation of electrical generation, distribution, and/or conversion systems, SCADA systems, integrated platform systems, associated technologies, and/or system integration is an asset Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Ability to work effectively within a team environment and across multiple projects Ability to manage a diverse workload while prioritizing time and resources Effective communication, interpersonal, and customer-relation skills Proficiency at an intermediate level in the use of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Responsibilities Provides electrical design expertise for marine and industrial projects, supporting the development, integration, and documentation of electrical systems and related design deliverables. Design and develop electrical systems, layouts, and models, including cable routing, equipment arrangements, and panel layouts Create and maintain 2D and 3D design documentation such as schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, termination details, and general arrangement drawings Support the selection of materials, components, and equipment, and prepare bills of material and specifications Assist in integrating electrical generation, distribution, control, and monitoring systems Contribute to the execution of projects on time, on budget and to a high standard of technical engineering excellence regularly collaborating and interfacing with a supportive project management function and external partners. Work with multidisciplinary teams to support project planning, execution, and technical reviews Communicate with field service team and commissioning personnel to clarify design intent and resolve design issues Collaborate with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to address technical requirements and ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle Participate in the advancement of the Company’s technical expertise and capability through a focus on standardization and continuous quality improvement; contribute to the development of tools, templates and operating procedures. Contribute to design standards, templates, and workflows to support consistent and efficient electrical design practices Support quality assurance activities by reviewing, validating, and improving design deliverables Prepare technical illustrations and documentation for manuals and installation packages Complete work in alignment to developed standards and procedures Contribute on occasion to the company’s growth and business development through acting as resource in the creation of technical proposals and bids for engineering services and engineered solutions. Provide input for technical proposals, estimates, and RFP responses related to electrical design work Assist in communicating technical capabilities during client discussions.
