Welding / Metallurgical Engineer - Ontario, Canada
Location: Ontario, Canada
Type: Contract / Project-Based
Eligibility: Canadian citizens or permanent residents only
Role Overview:
We are seeking a Welding / Metallurgical Engineer to provide QA/QC oversight for construction and fabrication of SMP packages. This role involves ensuring weld quality, metallurgical compliance, and adherence to project QA standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee QA/QC of SMP packages including steel sets, vent cans, ore cans, grizzly feeder steel & platework, lifting devices, substation steelwork, steel piping spools, skids, cast grizzly panels, and other steel fabrication items.
- Review and approve welding procedures, welder qualifications, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Perform 100% weld inspection and NDT (magnetic particle, ultrasonic, liquid dye penetrant, radiography if required).
- Monitor and verify painting and protective coating compliance.
- Attend and document trial assemblies; manage punch lists and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, SWP, and JHA.
- Organize and facilitate remote inspection communication.
- Verify fabricators adhere to approved fabrication plans and ITPs.
- Identify, document, and close out NCRs.
- Inspect packaging for dispatch and issue release certificates.
- Review and approve MDRs submitted by fabricators.
- Compile inspection reports and summaries; maintain high inspection standards.
- Attend meetings and coordinate with project teams and local inspectors.
Requirements:
- Experience in welding/metallurgical engineering or QA/QC inspection of steel fabrication.
- Proficiency with NDT methods and metallurgical standards.
- Strong reporting, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Eligible to work in Canada.
