Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in protecting our OT infrastructure from cyber threats while providing routine system and network support to our Industrial Control Networks. You will collaborate across technology and operational teams to ensure the security and safe operation of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) across the organization, supporting the implementation and monitoring of cybersecurity controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recommend and implement secure network architecture and controls for OT systems and applications in compliance with business requirements, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor cybersecurity alerts from various security tools, triage, and respond accordingly, making physical and logical changes where appropriate to mitigate threats without compromising process safety.
  • Analyze cybersecurity events and incidents, distinguishing between legitimate threats and false positives, and escalate when necessary.
  • Assist in cyber incident responses, mitigating attacks quickly and effectively.
  • Conduct regular assessments and audits of OT networks to ensure compliance with security policies.
  • Provide technical expertise in developing and enhancing network security measures for ICS.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external providers to ensure alignment with corporate security strategies and best practices.
  • Stay updated on emerging OT cybersecurity threats, trends, and technologies.
  • Lead vulnerability management and patching programs for OT assets, including SCADA and PLC systems.
  • Support compliance with NIST CSF, Regulatory, and other related Security Directives.
  • Participate in OT tabletop exercises and incident response drills to strengthen organizational resilience.
  • Develop and maintain OT-specific incident response playbooks and disaster recovery plans.

Key Technologies

  • Industrial Control Systems (ICS): SCADA, DCS, PLCs, and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
  • Field Devices & Networks: Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), sensors, actuators, and communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, OPC-UA).
  • Network Segmentation: Secure zones and conduits, DMZ architecture, and firewall configurations for OT environments.
  • Secure Remote Access: VPNs, jump hosts, and multifactor authentication for vendor and maintenance access.
  • Asset Management: Inventory of OT devices, firmware tracking, and lifecycle management.
  • Patch & Update Management: WSUS, antivirus solutions, and secure deployment strategies for OT systems.
  • Monitoring & Detection: Deployment of OT-specific threat detection platforms and integration with SIEM tools.
  • Resilience & Recovery: Backup strategies for controllers and HMIs, disaster recovery planning, and failover testing.

Qualifications

  • Degree or technical diploma in a related field. Formal training in Computer Networking, System Administration, Industrial Networks, OT Cybersecurity, Process Control Systems, or Control Systems Integration/Automation is an asset.
  • Certifications: Network certifications are desirable. SANS and/or GIAC certifications (ICS410, GICSP, ICS515, GRID) are highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of OT and IT cybersecurity principles, frameworks, and technologies.
  • Experience securing various ICS brands and familiarity with their unique security requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with networking gear.
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and security methodologies, including firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and SIEM.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft environments, Active Directory, Virtualization platforms, and WSUS patching systems.
  • Linux administration experience is an asset.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Wireshark, TCPDump, Volatility, Zeek, Dragos Platform, Kibana, Airflow, Suricata is beneficial.
  • Basic scripting skills (YARA, Python, Lua).
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.

Preferred Experience

  • Threat hunting and anomaly detection in OT environments.
  • Integration of OT networks with secure DMZ architectures and remote access solutions.
  • Experience with OT risk assessments and gap analysis aligned to IEC 62443 and NIST 800-82.
  • Knowledge of Pipeline Security Directives and energy sector compliance requirements.
