**Position Title:**Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE)
**Classification:**Early Childhood Development Worker, level 2
**Job Type:**Permanent position, 35 hrs. per week, 1FTE
**Direction:**Family & Community Services
**Location:**Currently, Nanny Goat Hill Nursery School
**Reporting to:**Manager of Children and Youth Services
Compensation:****$26.43 – $31.16, plus up to $2 per hr. Wage enhancement for 2026, plus a comprehensive compensation package that includes time-off entitlements, health benefits, life insurance, and participation in the HOOPP pension plan.

We are Somerset West Community Health Centre (SWCHC), a non-profit, community-governed organization that serves over 18,000 clients annually. Established in 1978, SWCHC provides a wide range of health care services such as primary health care, health promotion, community development, mental health, and harm reduction. What the Program Entails
Reporting to the Manager of Children and Youth Services, the Early Childhood Educator (RECE) is responsible for carrying out the Headstart Program in accordance with the regulations under the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).
What You’ll Do
The RECE participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of developmentally appropriate programs that facilitate a safe and stimulating learning atmosphere for the children and performs administrative functions as required.

Life and Work Experience

Direct service with children 18months – 5yrs

Administrative functions as required, working knowledge and use of major computer programs

Provides leadership to students and volunteers

Performs Bus Monitor/Housekeeper duties when required

Manages daily communications with families
Your Education Path
-
Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators, in good standing
-
Criminal Reference check for working with vulnerable populations
-
Current CPR level C, Standard First Aid and Food Handlers Certification
-
Health Assessment as per requirements in CCEYA
Required Language
-
Fluency in English is required.

- Effective at communicating and problem solving

Your Day-to-Day at a Glance
As our Early Childhood Educator your responsibilities are:
- Implements program using a variety of teaching skills and methods including modelling, observing, demonstrating, reinforcing, etc.
- Participates in program evaluation by reviewing and assessing program goals on an ongoing basis
- Supports the work of volunteers, students and supply teachers
- Observes and assesses the children’s progress and behaviour including collaborating with other professionals, i.e. speech therapy, physiotherapy and the mental health worker
- Contributes to the ongoing operation of the school by reviewing daily log, updating children's records, implementing policies and procedures, etc.
- Makes recommendation for purchase of supplies and equipment
- Purchases food and supplies when required
- Maintains day-to-day communications with parents regarding child’s needs and progress
- Ensures safety of children at all times
- Attends to toileting and diapering needs as required
- Ensures that children are dressed appropriately for indoor and outdoor activities

Priority is given to individuals with unique needs, including single parent families, those who are financially insecure, new Canadians, and persons coping with various disabilities. SWCHC welcomes and supports individuals of all gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, and ethnicities.
SWCHC serves a large multicultural area in Ottawa's centre west, including Dalhousie, Hintonburg, Mechanicsville, and West Wellington, with a population of approximately 40,000 persons.
