About the role
Position Summary:
Working under the direction of the Prototype Manager, this position is responsible for development support and timely delivery of engineering samples and new product prototypes to support Teknion’s product development activities. This position is also responsible for the timely delivery of customized products (specials) in support of our creative collaboration sales pursuits. As required, this position may also be requested to support other Teknion engineering departments in the development and delivery of samples and prototypes. The role will be required to work collaboratively with new product engineers and specials designers in a project environment.
Responsibilities:

Working with the New Products Design Engineering group, provide technical input into new designs and concepts. Support the research of new materials, processes, tooling and equipment as part of the new designs and concepts efforts.

Support the development and implementation of new equipment, processes, tools and fixtures in support of new product launches. Provide input into process feasibility and expected accuracy (tolerances). Leading new launch shop floor training and quality programs.

Working with the Product Customization team, support the design, prototyping and implementation of custom products.

Support the Tier 1 Manufacturing Engineering teams with product enhancements, with a focus on quality improvements and cost reductions.

Working with the various Teknion design teams (Seating, Walls, TRB, Ergonomic Products, Metal Storage, Electrics and Wood Products), providing engineering and technical input into new products and specials. Support the prototyping and manufacturing implementation of these items.

Responsible for planning of daily work and direct supervision of staff in adherence to project schedules.

Responsible for communicating and reinforcing the adherence to safety programs. Accountable for working in accordance with the law to promote a safe work environment for all employees. In addition, this position is responsible for insuring that suitable training, and the appropriate tools and equipment are available to employees enabling them to perform their work in a safe and efficient manner.

Accountable for promoting housekeeping and cleanliness in order to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude
- 5+ years hands-on experience in steel fabrication
- Ability to read and interpret design sketches and technical drawings
- Knowledge health and safety rules and can enforcement of company rules and applicable government regulations
- Excellent organizational skills and self-motivated
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Computer literate
- Strong people skills to liaise between manufacturing and engineering to provide samples and mockups to the required schedules
