We're looking for a Senior Cloud Specialist who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
You will primarily be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of Suncor's Private Cloud infrastructure. Secondarily, you will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge and influence into other platforms such as Windows/RHEL servers, Azure, AWS, containerization, Ansible, Tanium, and more.
This role involves managing server infrastructure, optimizing performance, ensuring security & compliance, and providing technical support to various teams. You will also lead initiatives for system upgrades, automation, and troubleshooting complex issues, while overseeing the overall Private Cloud tasks to ensure successful completion of key objectives.
A successful candidate should have 10+ years in IT operations and the ability to demonstrate a firm grasp of enterprise operations processes.
Primary Job Functions:
- Maintain a Dynamic Environment
- VMware Expertise: Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for VMware, managing, maintaining, optimizing, and automating infrastructure for performance, security, and reliability.
- Hands-on skill with vCenter, ESX, and Aria: Identify configuration and security gaps, plan solutions, and implement them according to priorities.
- Experience with Azure Local (Stack): Ensure security and configurations are maintained and up to date.
- Security: System hardening, patch management, compliance management (including CIP), and vulnerability management.
- Monitoring and Alerting: Use monitoring solutions and tools, define thresholds, baselines, and metrics, and implement alerting for proactive incident response.
- Incident Management: Play a key role in resolving incidents, ensuring rapid response, and implementing long-term solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Create, update, and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation; maintain up-to-date knowledge bases; participate in regular knowledge sharing sessions.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Engage in cross-functional initiatives, taking on tasks outside your immediate role to support team goals and contribute to broader company objectives.
- General knowledge of Azure Local (Stack/HCI), Windows server operating systems, storage technology, and Azure/AWS is preferred.
- Plan and Implement New Technology
- Automation and Scripting: Use tools such as Aria, Ansible, Terraform, and others to automate configurations, updates, alerting, and other processes, reducing manual efforts and ensuring system configuration consistency.
- Participate in vendor events: Participate in relevant vendor events to learn about new technologies, strategies, and up-coming roadmaps, sharing that knowledge with the team and planning future improvements to the platform.
- Regularly contribute to team meetings: Share ideas, feedback, and enhancements, promoting a culture of innovation and excellence. Always focussing on enhancing the environment with value-add improvements and upgrades.
- Plan, test, and implement: You will participate in the planning, testing, and implementation of new technologies. Suncor puts a high value on new technologies that can increase cost savings and efficiency in our systems. You will help find those technologies, learn, test, and implement them to better our platform security, functionality, and efficiency.

- Current technical certifications: VMware and cloud

- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday.
- On-call support is required of this role.
- Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based on years of experience and scope of work.
