About the role
Westburne is much more than electrical products. We are Canada’s market leader in energy solutions, renewables, lighting, wire & cable, automation and connected network solutions. We partner with top manufacturers and deliver growth opportunities to our customers and supplier partners. If you’re driven to build relationships, close major commercial opportunities and work collaboratively across teams and divisions, Westburne is where you’ll make an impact.
What You Will Do With Us
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Industrial Business Development Manager to lead strategic project pursuits and drive revenue growth. This individual will be directly involved in all major initiatives and client engagements due to their proven track record of identifying opportunities, building strong client relationships, and closing complex deals.
With a sharp understanding of market dynamics and stakeholder priorities, the Industrial Business Development Manager will engage not only with clients but also with key vendors and suppliers to secure competitive terms and ensure projects are positioned for success from the outset. Acting as a bridge between opportunity development and project execution, they will leverage relationships, negotiation skills, and commercial insight to deliver outcomes that strengthen both client satisfaction and business performance.
As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will act as a bridge between project development and execution, ensuring business goals are achieved through targeted outreach, strategic partnerships, and deal closure.
This role will include regular travel throughout the province and occasional broader regional travel to meet manufacturers or stakeholders.
How You Will Thrive With Us
- Customer-facing leadership: Own the customer relationship for large commercial prospects and accounts — lead interactions from proposal through contract, ensuring timely follow-up and a high level of service.
- Opportunity tracking & pursuit: Identify, qualify and pursue high-value commercial opportunities. Build and maintain an accurate pipeline, coordinate pricing, quotes and proposals, and shepherd opportunities through internal approval and order entry.
- Close deals: Negotiate terms, align internal resources, and secure purchase orders for major projects and accounts. Take accountability for closing and meeting agreed revenue targets.
- Cross-team collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with local sales representatives, branch teams, inside sales and vendor/manufacturer representatives to ensure seamless execution and customer satisfaction.
- Cross-division coordination: Collaborate and coordinate with other Westburne divisions to leverage specialized product lines, project resources, centralized services and shared initiatives — ensuring customers receive the best integrated solutions across the company.
- Manufacturer relationships: Act as a conduit to our manufacturer community — coordinate product support, technical resources, promotional programs and special pricing to support bids and projects.
- Solution selling: Understand customer needs and specifications; present Westburne’s product and service solutions that maximize value and margin.
- Reporting & forecasting: Maintain accurate forecasts and opportunity reports; provide regular status updates and insights to the Divisional Sales Manager.
Who You Are
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, supply chain, or related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience: Minimum seven years of relevant experience in commercial sales, project sales or business development — ideally with experience in electrical, MRO, industrial, construction or related markets. Experience working with manufacturers and supporting channel sales is an asset.
- Customer focus: Energized by customer-facing situations; skilled at building trust with decision-makers and managing complex buying cycles.
- Sales skills: Proven track record of closing large commercial orders and managing a pipeline of major opportunities.
- Collaboration: Comfortable working without direct reports while influencing and coordinating multiple internal and external stakeholders, including other Westburne divisions.
- CRM proficiency: Experience using CRM tools to manage leads, opportunities and forecasts.
- Communication & organization: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize under pressure.
- Coaching & influence: Ability to share knowledge, support sales colleagues and mobilize manufacturer resources to win deals.
