Your future role on our team

We are growing our Mechanical/Piping Engineering team in our Trail Office! As our work expands in the energy, mining and industrial sectors, we are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 8-12 years of consulting experience in heavy industry. We are looking for curious, self-motivated professionals who bring strong teamwork and an entrepreneurial mindset.

As a Mechanical Engineer at BBA Trail Office, you will play a key role in all phases of engineering projects from front-end studies to detailed design and field implementation. As an intermediate/senior member of the mechanical engineering team, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of exceptional technical quality, identification and development of new business opportunities and client relationships and providing mentorship and guidance to some of our more junior team members.

  • With us, you’ll get the opportunity to
  • Take a lead role in client communications and business development
  • Develop scopes of work, budgets, methodologies, and proposals
  • Lead all or mechanical scope on conceptual design studies, pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies, and detailed engineering
  • Be the Project Manager or Project Leader on engineering mandates within the mining and metals, hydroelectric power, renewable energy and pulp and paper industries.
  • Be a key team member for small to major brownfield/greenfield mining projects
  • Perform mechanical/piping engineering calculations
  • Establish client needs, prepare or review reports, estimates and specifications.
  • Participate in site inspections, condition assessments, commissioning, and testing
  • Provide mentorship and coaching of junior/intermediate engineers, actively sharing knowledge, and supporting the enhancement of skills within the team.

Overview of certifications and job requirements

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 8 to 12 years of relevant engineering experience, with a preference for 5+ years in consulting, and 2+ years site experience
  • Eligible to register with EGBC as a P.Eng.
  • Industrial project experience in the mining and metals, hydroelectric power, renewable energy and/or pulp and paper industries
  • A valid class 5 BC driver’s license
  • Ability to travel on short notice to client sites (approximately 20-30% of time)
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical documents such as reports, specifications, studies, plans and work instructions.
  • Ability to interpret PFD’s and process design criteria from process engineering, preparing plant layouts, mechanical equipment selection and validation and pump sizing
  • Experience with design deliverables such as P&IDs, piping isometrics, layouts, elevations, equipment and line lists, vendor equipment drawings, etc.
  • Familiarity with AACE capital cost estimation
  • Familiarity with ASME BVPC, B31.1/B31.3, API 650
  • Proficiency in mechanical/piping software (e.g. Solidworks, AFT Fathom/Arrow or equivalent, Ceasar2, AutoCAD)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to lead teams and delegate work

  • Annual base salary, based on 37.5 hours weekly, between $121,200 and $148,200
