Job Description

The Retail Propane Business Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the retail propane division, with direct oversight of sales, dispatch, drivers, and field services. This role ensures safe, efficient, and customer-focused service delivery while supporting business growth and operational excellence. The Manager works closely with the Director, Business Operations, to implement strategic initiatives and drive performance across the division, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and compliance in collaboration with the Compliance department.

What will you do?

Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead and manage a cross-functional team including sales representatives, dispatchers, drivers, and field service technicians.

  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and high performance across all operational areas.

  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and development opportunities to team members.

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee daily propane delivery operations, ensuring timely and accurate service to customers.

  • Coordinate with dispatch to optimize routing, scheduling, and equipment utilization.

  • Ensure field service activities (tank installations, maintenance, and repairs) meet quality standards and align with safety protocols.

Sales & Customer Experience

  • Support the sales team in executing pricing strategies, onboarding new customers, and maintaining strong customer relationships.

  • Monitor customer satisfaction and resolve service issues promptly and professionally.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and pursue growth opportunities.

Financial & Asset Management

  • Monitor divisional budgets, expenses, and performance metrics to ensure cost-effective operations.

  • Manage propane tank assets and inventory levels to support service delivery and business growth.

  • Provide input into pricing, forecasting, and margin optimization efforts.

Safety & Compliance Awareness

  • Maintain a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance in all operational activities.

  • Ensure team members understand and follow safety protocols and company standards.

  • Collaborate with the Compliance department to support audits, training, and corrective actions as needed.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to operations, sales, and customer service.

  • Identify process improvement opportunities and lead initiatives to enhance efficiency and service quality.

  • Prepare regular updates for the Director, Business Operations on divisional performance and challenges.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills across diverse operational functions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Solid
    understanding of propane operations and safety standards.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and operational software (e.g., ERP, dispatch systems).

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and drive improvements.

  • Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to align operational decisions with strategic goals, manage resources effectively, and contribute to overall organizational success.

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Operations, or a related field (preferred).

  • 5–7 years of experience in propane, fuel delivery, or a similar operational environment.

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and customer-facing operations.

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally as needed.

  • Flexibility to work outside regular hours during peak periods or emergencies.
