About The Job The Assistant Manager position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on leadership experience and develop essential skills associated with program management. Working closely with Program Managers and Directors, you will learn how to oversee daily operations, support team development, and contribute to strategic decision-making. This role is designed to build a strong foundation in people management, problem-solving, and operations, making it an ideal stepping stone for individuals aspiring to advance into management positions at Atira. You will ensure your work is conducted in a professional and efficient manner in compliance with Atira’s policies and consistent with the mission, vision, values, and philosophy of the Society.
About You You are a feminist, passionate about the work of ending violence against women and children. You embrace Atira’s mission, vision, values and philosophy. You have a well-developed understanding of and commitment to anti-oppression work and intersectionality. You are familiar with colonialism especially as it applies in Canada and you understand the impact of the residential school system. You are committed to working with women who are struggling with substance use and or mental wellness and understand and are comfortable working within a harm reduction environment. Your definition of woman includes transgender, two spirit and intersex women, and transfeminine individuals. You are sex worker positive. Lived expertise is an asset, as living in the community in which you work. Atira strives to hire staff who reflect the people we serve.

Additional Requisites/Assets
- A minimum of three years front-line support work experience in increasingly more senior roles with at least one of those years in a supervisory capacity and experience working with people who are facing multiple forms of oppression including but not limited to violence, abuse, homelessness, poverty, and racism.
- A Degree, Diploma or certificate in social work, social services, public health, building management, facilities management or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education, experience, and skill- based training.
- Experience working with clients who are facing multiple forms of oppression including but not limited to violence, abuse, homelessness, poverty and racism.
- Must have a valid first aid certificate.
- Must have a current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate.
- Access to a reliable vehicle while on shift, class 5 drivers license, with two million lability insurance.
- Administrative and supervisory experience is required.
- All positions are subject to a criminal records review (Paid by Atira)
- Covid-19 & annual Flu vaccinations are recommended

Our mission at Atira Women's Resource Society is twofold: to provide direct services to women and children fleeing violence, and to raise awareness of all forms of gendered violence through education and advocacy.
Since 1983, Atira has offered safe and supportive housing to women and children impacted by violence, as well as a range of services in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, Burnaby, Surrey, White Rock, and Richmond.
These services include: long-term and transitional housing, shelter programs, housing outreach and homelessness prevention programs, outreach to senior women and First Nations, Metis and Inuit women affected by violence, support for parents and children who witness abuse, legal support, Stopping the Violence counseling, the 16-step program, and self-employment initiatives.
Our programs are accessible to anyone who identifies and lives full time as a woman and who experiences gendered violence and misogyny, including trans, two spirit and intersex women and or those who identify with a femme of centre non-binary gender.
Critical to the development of our programs and services, Atira's work is informed by the understanding that women's experience of violence often intersects with poverty, racism, substance use, and lack of support for mothering. We also recognize that in addition to providing safety and respect, all of our programs must invite and encourage women’s collaboration and that women must have the opportunity to be active participants in all of our services.
