The Opportunity
General Bank of Canada is looking for a permanent, fulltime National Sales Manager to join as a key contributor with the Bank’s Retail Sales team. Consistent with the growth trajectory of the Bank, this is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to contribute to building the Bank of the future with considerable potential for learning, growth, and advancement.
Reporting to the National Director, Sales & Strategy, the National Sales Manager will lead the growth and performance of our prime indirect retail automotive lending portfolio and the Sales Team across Canada. This role is ideal for a senior sales leader who understands how to scale high-quality dealer relationships, lead geographically distributed teams, and balance growth with disciplined credit and risk management. You will play a critical role in shaping national sales strategy, driving execution through your team, and partnering closely with Credit, Risk, and Operations to deliver sustainable and improved results.

Position Responsibilities
Strategic Direction

Works closely with their direct leader to effectively communicate the progress of the retail indirect auto lending strategy, initiatives, business plans, achievement of forecasts, areas of opportunity, issues, and overall department feedback for achievement of goals.

Works closely with the department’s leadership group on strategic planning, risk, incentives, reports, and initiatives that improve business outcomes.

Builds strong relationships and manages the initiatives of the sales team, to the benefit of improving results on loan volume, profit, and risk optimization.

Works closely with cross-departmental teams to enhance GBC effectiveness, service offerings, and achievement of enterprise goals.

Optimizes risk reduction as it pertains to dealer relationships, especially those that pertain to the Bank’s Dealer Management Framework.

Responsible for keeping abreast of market intelligence, industry knowledge, competition, GBC positioning, sales strategy, operational results, and the overall impact on identifying opportunities and threats.
Leadership, Coaching and Training
- Provides comprehensive leadership for Territory Managers (TM) employed by both the Bank and First Canadian, including coaching, development, onboarding, training, and performance management, supported through in-person engagement and regular travel across Canada.
- Monitors key performance indicators for the line of business while providing leadership and guidance to the TMs to ensure benchmark levels are achieved.
- Creates and maintains an environment that promotes trust, creativity, initiative, accountability, and cooperation.
- Utilizes unique approaches that build on the skillset of each TM strengths/opportunities and personality; hence, supporting individual performance and development plans for each.
- Leads in a way that motivates teams, encourages collaboration, and maintains commitment to achieving key business outcomes.
- Provides leadership, training, tools, and direction to the sales team to support their targets, monthly forecasts, account planning, report optimization, and budgets.
- Oversees the achievement of customer service levels by ensuring the necessary tools and resources are available. Strives to consistently meet service.
What You Bring to the Table
Required Qualifications

Demonstrated and substantiated leadership experience, typically gained through a minimum of five years, showing progressive role responsibility, evidenced by a clear record of effective leadership, decision-making, and measurable overall organizational impact. Candidates must be able to clearly articulate and evidence the scope, complexity, and outcomes of their leadership experience

Knowledge of automotive, indirect lending, or related sales financial services.

Intermediate to extensive consumer finance and credit knowledge.

Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications, with intermediate or higher expertise in the Microsoft Office Suite.

Knowledge of project management principles and practices.

Position Details
- Status: Permanent, fulltime
- Workplace Model: Remote
- Location: Candidates located in Edmonton, AB or Greater Toronto Area, ON, will be given preference; however, candidates from various locations will be considered.
- Working Conditions: This position requires travel across Canada. For candidates located in Edmonton this is approximately 25% of the employee’s work time and for candidates located outside of Edmonton, this is approximately 30%-35% of the employees work time.
- Compensation:The salary range for this role is between$160,000 to $190,000 annually (Salary range reflects a combination of base salary and variable pay opportunity)
