We are seeking an experiencedSenior Tax Advisorto support Canadian and cross‑border tax planning, compliance, and advisory activities. This role partners closely with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and Commercial teams to ensure tax‑efficient outcomes while maintaining strong compliance with Canadian federal and provincial tax requirements.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical tax expertise, practical business judgment, and the ability to translate complex tax matters into clear, actionable advice for stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Advisory & Planning
- Provide practical tax advice on Canadian corporate income tax matters, including reorganizations, financing, dividends, and intercompany transactions
- Responsible for the Company’s financing structure and provide strategic advice on evolving international taxation
- Lead tax planning initiatives and assess the tax implications of commercial, operational, and strategic transactions
- Monitor changes in Canadian tax legislation and assess impacts, risks, and opportunities
Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee or support preparation and review of Canadian corporate income tax returns and related filings
- Assist with tax provisions, uncertain tax positions, and audit support as required
- Support foreign affiliate reporting, surplus calculations, and cross‑border compliance where applicable
- Lead the preparation of all international tax compliance, including surplus, FAPI, Safe Income and Upstream loan calculations
- Responsible for the coordination of international tax audits and assist with domestic audits
- Manage relationships with tax authorities and external advisers
Stakeholder Partnership
- Act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders across Finance, Legal, Treasury, and Commercial teams
- Review contracts and agreements to identify tax considerations and risks
- Liaise with external advisors and tax authorities as required
Governance & Controls
- Support internal tax controls, documentation, and governance processes
- Contribute to continuous improvement of tax processes and tools
- Provide coaching and technical guidance to junior tax team members
Qualifications & Experience
Required
-
CPA designation (CPA, CA preferred) and/or Master of Taxation (MTax) and completion of the CICA In-Depth.

15 years of progressive experience in Canadian corporate tax (public accounting and/or large corporate environment)

Strong knowledge of Canadian income tax legislation and CRA administrative practices

Experience advising on complex transactions and cross‑functional initiatives

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proven ability to analyze and understand complex situations quickly and develop practical, appropriate solutions to resolve high impact issues. Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing work priorities and deliver high quality, accurate work with multiple deadlines

Demonstrates pro-active, collaborative approach with ability to build positive relationships within department and organization
Preferred

Experience with cross‑border tax and foreign affiliate structures

Oil & gas, energy, or capital‑intensive industry experience

Exposure to tax technology, automation, or process improvement initiatives
